Default almost killed the R

Last night i was parking the car in the garage and i had a wierd feelling with the stering wheel when turning arround to put the car in the right spot i felt some resistance but noting real bad. Today at work same thing in the garage then the stering lock 0-o ,after lil fight it unlock but when i was turning i heard a plastic breaking sound. Try to see but can't see nothing and no tools btw. Going back home getting on the hiway with my liltle plastic broking noise the fcking steering lock in the curve !! i just had the time to stop before the wall. Then some more fight , plastic broking noise and srs light came on. now you see .... the part where the airbag plug going in (you can see the parts under the steering with a code bar sticker on) i supose there is some gear in this part so they broke, i dont know why and how but no i have no more working airbag and i had to remove this part so i can use the car. Is that a common problem because its really really not a nice thing ! anyone know if this part is expensive ? i tried to open it but i looks sealed in the middle parts.
anyway R is safe home
sorry for my bad english its not my primary language.

Did you do any steering-related work to your car recently that you had to re-center your steering wheel? That part you broke is a clockspring. Try going on ebay or even a junkyard for a replacement.

How fast were you going when you were in the curve and the steering wheel locked? How'd you stop the car? That has always been a fear of mine.

New from the dealer, the clock spring runs about $250 or so. You can buy one from eBay pretty cheap, but be sure you get the right one. And be careful installing it because it's really easy to f*ck it up.
