i wa heading home from work this afternoon in my 91 integra completely stock. and it lost power i gave it gas and it started popping and backfiring, then it picks back up runs fine 10 sec later loses power again it goes back and forth loseing and gainig powerfor like 5 miles i take my exit and slow down and it dies. wont start back it hits like its going too but doesnt and backfires while cranking. every time it lost powere was for diff amt of time. its not a lack of fuel havent had time to go ne further was wanting some ideas i could go with tomoro after work. dont think its timing since power came and went im thinking ignition but didnt no if ne one had had this problem and i could go straight to something instead of around in circles. oh yeah nevr threw a cel. thanks for the help hope theirs enough info to go on

 

when this happened in my civic with a b16a it was the coil, same exact situation, would sputter, then it wouldn't start anymore, replaced coil and all was good

 

Sounds like possibly your dizzy's rotor screw came undone


pop the cap off and take a look

I second the coil, common symptoms to what you are describing

 

yep the same sheat happened to me last night...i just changed my coil, and it runs fine..i also did new cap, rotor, plugs and wires...hope u find out wats wrong

 

Have you tested for spark?

 

and is this problem resolved yet?

 

ding ding ding honda thugz is the winner i justgot home and pulled the distributor cap off the rotor button is just free spinning and the screw is stuck to the magnetic pick up i was gonna pull it off last nite but it was 11 and i dont have power ran to the garage yet. thanks for all the input. it was so much better than trouble shooting everything from fuel to spark
