Will I hurt the engine? VTEC motor with non-vtec ecu
EDITED 5/18 9:30 PM
Long story short, I blew my d16y7, decided to go with the d15b 3-stage engine. The p2j ecu will not be here in time before I need to get my car home from school. Engine is on it's way here from HMO, so I'm weighing my options for the trip home. It is a 2.5 hour drive and I will not need to drive it again prior to receiving the p2j.
I have heard people say that it could harm the engine due to the maps, not to run it over 3k rpms and to run on 91 octane gas.
edit: I am planning on running it with a p2p ecu with the just the vtec hooked up, not the 16v mode solenoid. SO, is it ok to run the engine like that? Vtec would engage straight from 12v mode instead of 16v mode...

i would be okay cause i use to run a p06 on my d16z6 nothing happened to it and i ran for months before i got another p28
proper plugs for the vtec? The motor will come with a wiring harness thats cut up so u can just cut the plugs off that u need and use ur old wiring harness

No worries, I'm not that new to it. HA.
Anyways, does anyone have an idea of how long I would be ok running it with the p2p, vtec wired up and all? This would mean the motor would be stuck in 12-valve mode until vtec kicks in at 5500 rpm. I know it would be slow, but I would much rather it be slow than rush the overall setup.
I've searched and searched and have not found a true answer to that, I know of many out there that have that setup going, but I am cautious. And I do know that my idle will be out of whack since the p2p will be feeding the engine fuel for 16-valve operation, not 12-valve operation.

So let me get this straight, ur running 3 stage vtec and right now u have just a reg vtec ecu and ur going to pay 50 bucks for what? Y wouldnt u just add the two wires (could b one for the 12 to 16 valve mode, i dont know) when u get the right ecu (like normal people when going fron non-vtec to vtec) cause ur going to have to do it for the reg vtec, right?
Never really messed with obdII so i may b missing something (like the 92 has vtec wiring included till the engine harness).

No, sorry..the engine is on it's way from HMO. I have a y7 and a y8 ecu and my engine harness is from the y7, so non-vtec. I do realize I can wire it up myself without much difficulty now. I'm saying that I am getting my whole harness redone to mate with the d15b since it has 2 vtecs and an egr valve, so yes, I will probably run the two wires to hook up the vtec.
What I'm now asking is, will I be harming the engine if I run it with the p2p for more than the trip home?

Im tellin u NO it will not harm it. Its hard to harm a honda motor thats all stock even with crazy stupid afrs. Im still working on my s300 map for my pretty much stock z6. Just went to the bank (these r some of the first wot pulls cause i was waiting for my clutch to break in and I dont have a license so I do get to play with it too much), my girl had the computer and I saw 17 to 1 afr at 6500 rpms, I then instructed her to richen up that section and so on. My point being is ur fine. The only way is if u were running afr like these for long periods of time. So if u got vtec working on the p2p I would say try that sucker out and c how vtec feels
