Motorized fold-up airbag cover?
http://www.geocities.com/turbotage/I..._side_view.JPG if that image doesn't show up.
This is not my car, but you can see the airbag cover on the passenger side. I'd like to make that fold up (hinged on the windshield side) to reveal an LCD or gauges, whatever.. I've done some searching and couldn't find what I was looking for. Any ideas on where to look or start on such a project? ie. what kind of motor/solenoid to use, etc?
Thanks.
Justin
i am also interested, i know the guy who owns bodywerks in cali did something like that in his S2000, he had a coupla gauges in there. looked sweet, LCD would be even better

Wanna build a stash spot eh?
.....J/K. Well I can offer some insight....
1. Remove airbag cover and make a 16ga metal cover panel or a box with a lid.
use a piano hinge or similar type....secure airbag cover to it.
2. Look into SelectProducts.com for acuators,switches,latches...all the
cool little toys to make it a reality.
3. Check local laws.....seems that many law officers don't take too highly to
this type of modification.
Have fun

Heh yeah, stash spot.
That website is cool, I found the page with actuators and thought "perfect!!", then I saw the price.. holy god. $200 for the cheapest one. Well I think I'll be looking at other options.
I rigged up something that I think may work.. I used pieces from an old erector set
As for Johnny Law, I'm not too worried about that. I don't think it's against any laws to remove airbags. I probably wouldn't have removed them but the car didn't come with any so I wasn't about to go buy them.
Thanks for your ideas.. this project is getting closer to becoming reality.

if you want to be cheap about it, use a power window motor and ghetto rig some gears together. then you might need to rig something for it to catch onto when its opened to the angle that you want. Just a thought.
