no breakes and need some advice
so i have a 96 accord and both front and back breakes are worn down and need to be replaced but im short on cash, so which set is more important to get fixed first??? thanks a ton
advice 1: spell check
advice 2: credit card
haha jk, i would say get the fronts done first but don't wait too long before you get the back because otherwise you're gonna have to get new rotors too. also take a close look and see which ones are worse, they should be the ones to replace

replace the rotors also if you cant resurface them. basically you have to find a place that resurfaces rotors. i know some carquest shops do this for like 10 bucks per front rotor and i think 8 bucks per rear rotor. and i use autozone lifetime warranty brake pads with autozone rotors if we cant resurface. (unless the customer wants dealer parts). oh-and i do allow customers to use their warranty on the pads when they need to be replaced again. i dont think any other shop does that LOL
Well the front is where most of your braking power. But the rear is important too, considering that's the part your parking brake applies pressure to.
I would do the front pads.
Rotors are hard to replace on the 5th gen since they are hub over rotor design. It's a pain in the butt to replace, and will cost a lot if you bring it to a shop to replace.
Try to save up some money to do a complete maintenance on the car. Brake bleeding, new rotors and new brake pads.

i have to agree yet dissagree with you kid. while it is a pain in the *** to replace its not that much of a pain. its just removing the pad and pad holder thingy, the axle nut, the lower ball joint castle nut, and seperation of the lower ball joint, remove the axle from the hub and then remove the 4 12-point 10mm bolts on the rear of the hub. then pull that rotor/hub assembly out and remove the 4 14mm bolts on the rear of the hub to remove the rotor from the hub. its not that bad. takes like 15 minutes to remove each rotor. i dont think its too much of a pain LOL. just my opinion though.
Easy for a person that did it before. When I first did it, Oh man, did I have trouble. Lack of tools and experience made it seem so hard. But yea, If I were to do it again, it would be a whole lot faster.
@hatchbackjo01, if you know how to do it, i suggest you do it. I am guessing this rotor is still original from the factory. And so many miles on it already, it would be wise to change it.
But a
for Autozone warranty. Woot! Loving it!

yeah i only care about making money on the labor for repairs so the autozone warranties i dont mind letting people use if they have it.
and we race sometimes removing breaks just for fun. i did a left side this week on a 91 accord and one of my techs did the right side. my rotor was off in 6 minutes and 27 seconds. i do wheels, axle nut, cotter pin on castle nut for lower ball joint, castle nut, seperate ball joint, remove ball joint, caliper bolts, pads, pad holder/bracket, axle out of hub, the 4 bolts for the hub to steering knuckle, remove the hub and then finally the 4 bolts holding the hub to rotor. using impacts helps too LOL. it takes like 10 minutes to re assemble with brake grease and new rotors but that part i wont encite a race because i dont want my tech skipping something to try to win LOL

just got done replacing my rotor, stock hub over rotor design. first time replacing it and it took a few hours but i got it done. wasnt really hard, just time consuming being my first time replacing it.
It's not too much of a pain on the 5th gen but I HATED IT! i decided to get rid of them and went five lug all the way around with drilled and slotted rotors. it takes about twice as long as doing a brake job to do the whole thing and saves loads of time on the long run... just don't do it if you plan on selling the car next week
