Default FIPK vs Gutted airbox with Snorkel

Im deciding between putting my FIPK in or using my snorkel with the stock gutted air box and K&N drop in box filter. What would you guys do? I know the FIPK makes gains, but how is the heat soak issue? It just seems like an open filter will pull hot air in as opposed to the air box with the snorkel pulling air in from below. Any ideas/suggestions?

Once you close your hood, the hood acts as a cap for the FIPK. Most s2k guys run AUT cooling plate and the KIPK. The FIPK sounds better then the stock gutted with K & N drop in for damn sure.

I went through a few cold air intakes and the gains are so small you dont feel a thing just hear it.

Save your money and just drop in a K&N filter with a gutted box and snorkel, dont waste your time.

It's a good thing the FiPK isn't a cold air intake. Apples to oranges, and it does have proven gains

I prefer the gutted box+snorkel thats what i used to run. it looks much cleaner under the hood. considering how small the gains are from all the intakes its a good alternative. Unless u go with a j's or passwordjdm set up then u will c gains

fipk with the aut cooling panel and a custom air duct to direct air to the aut and into the fipk. FTW seriously

I put my FIPK in this weekend, and its terrific. Better throne's response, no bog or nothing, and loud as fawk when you get on it. I'm very pleased. Now is there a way to incorporate the snorkel so it channels the air to the filter? Like putting the snorkel on so its pointing to the filter?

There isn't much power to be gained. But for sound and throttle response you can gutt your box for FREE and make a duct for dirt cheap. The FIPK is good but the oem box does just as good of a job as the FIPK fighting heat soak. I personaly don't use K&N filters anymore so in my opinion a gutted box, OE filter, spoon snorkel is a good setup.

you could mod a snorkel to where the fipk sucks in air by the wheel I'd think.

I actually ended up taking the fipk off. That with the test pipe is really making it produce a lot of exhaust and its getting in the car by normal driving. It had better throttle response and was loud but, Id rather have my stock gutted box with my K&N filter and a snorkel.

If you live in a dry and dusty area like I do, I wouldn't recomend useing a k&n along with a spoon snorkel. It doesn't seem like a big deal but k&n filters are natorious for not filtering small dirt particals compared to OE or OE replacements. I used to clean the inside of my box often and I would find small rocks, lots of dust and every once in a while a bee or two. My point is if you daily your S with a gutted box and snorkel, use an OE replacement filter and save yourself the extra $60.
