Default faulty ecu? (s300 veterans please help)

i bought the p28/s300 package off of hrtuning.com. my **** ran great for about month till my fuel pump would take a long time to whine up. then yesterday it just wont whine up at all and my check engine light stays on. my homies laptop .... the ecu wont even show up on the screen. thought it was the relay but tried a diff relay and still nothing. change out a completely diff ecu and it started. fried ecu? theres a weird brown bubbly residue on a lil part inside the ecu. im going to call them tomorrow and prob have to send it back. bummer. any related issues?

How about you post a picture of what you are describing. Its very unlikely that the P28/S300 package was bad. Possible, just unlikely.

It definitely wasn't a bad ECU package, since it worked for a month and they're all tested before shipment.

You're welcome to send it back to have it checked out, but the ECU and S300 certainly weren't damaged when they shipped out. Feel free to shoot me an email. Support@HRTuning.com

After talking with him the component in question looks to be IC17. It's on the way back for inspection and repair.

It's been quite a bit longer than a month, the purchase date was in February and it's now May, but I have no problem checking it out for you.

Awesome, that may actually just be the capacitor at C67 and it doesn't look like the board is damaged beyond repair. I'll let you know for sure as soon as it arrives.

It wasn't IC17 or C67, the photos are just showing a dark spot of flux on the board.

It was the power regulator. Replaced, working 100%, shipping back tomorrow.

Alex... What I was trying to say was it's possible something on your side is damaging the ECU. This is the second time I shipped it out 100% functional and the second time you're saying it's damaged. As I was trying to explain, the S300, the expensive part, is still completely functional and separate from the ECU issue. You're not out "$700". At most you may need a new ECU and to take a look into what on your side might be causing these issues. Get back to me if you want to send it in. I'll run it through the tests again (Which includes running it in a car btw) and ship you a new ECU if it's necessary. Don't be my first unhappy customer, we can still get it sorted.

ive ran two diff ecus in my car. the one my car came with which was a p73 and worked fine for 6 months and than traded a friend for his p28 which worked perfectly for 4 months. Ive been havin startup issues for the last month or more. in that span ive changed fuel pump to a brand new walbro, soldered fuel pump wires, changed the relay and still havent found the source of the problem. since you sent me two perfect running ecus which im taking your word for, than that leaves me with a ****ed car or engine harness? but it worked with other ecus for exteneded periods of time. the system isnt agreeing with the s300? thanks but sending it back is pointless if you already fixed the ecu and if thats not the problem like you say it isnt.

Ya, there's a chance something could be causing damage to the ECU. What or how is very unclear at this point. I'd like to get my hands on it again just to see if when I power it up it's working or not. That will actually give me some insight into what part of your system may be having a problem. All I can say is I had it running for 24 hours on the bench before I shipped it, started and ran a vehicle several times. If you decide you want to ship it out again, I'll be here!
