One of the four corner valve cover studs has stripped on the cam journal, so I am looking to put a Heli-Coil insert in to remedy the problem.

I need to know the size/pitch for the stud, where it connects to the cam journal so that I can get the correct Heli-Coil kit.

Well, I got impatient and I made the 20 mile drive to NAPA to have them size the bolt. The magic number is M8x1.25

 

i wouldnt use helicoil in that area..helicoils tend to pull out if there is to much stress on them..look for a steel pound in insert in that size..most hardware stores have/can order them.

would suck for bolt to come out and throw off timing or something..just my oppinion tho

 

That stud threads into the bearing cap, but does not hold it down. Helicoil is fine.

Right, this is not a load bearing stud. IIRC, we're looking at 48 inch/lbs on this guy.

 

o i appoligize..it was hard to tell by the picture and i gues i didnt read the op verywell to notice it was just for the valve cover
