Giving some zing to my D15B7
hey guys
i have been into hondas for about 5 years now, i have a EG8 Civic Gli Sedan (D15B7) and i used to have a DC2 Integra VTI-R (B18c4) which went to honda heaven along with alot of my money lol
and yes i am from australia lol
now i am actually enjoying playing with my civic, its more of a hobby/enjoyment thing ... im not chasing huge numbers or anything im really just doing it for myself
i have some questions regarding intake manifolds, throttlebody, header and cams:
im looking at bolting in a D16A6 cam with an adjustable cam gear
i want to upgrade the intake manifold and throttlebody along with it at the same time
i was shopping around for a z6 IM ... but will the y8 work on the D15b7?
or do i need to stick with the z6?
i was also going to hunt down a 60mm TB ... but i have no clue which one to use with the new IM on my D15B7
thanks for looking
im currently in the middle of wire tucking the engine bay ... the left hand side of this pic is done ... today i will start on the right, i also just cleaned up and painted the EM heatsheild black earlier this week ... so that will be going back on later today as well

A header (notice there isn't an S on the end of the word, your car only has one) does absolutely nothing for a D-series engine. You are better off spending your money elsewhere.
If you want any enjoyment out of a D-series, you should go FI... that or just save your money for better things.

ok well thanks for the NON CONSTRUCTIVE ANSWERS
im sure i stated that i DONT CARE ... and im just doing this for fun
im NOT broke ... but like i said i dont want to throw alot of cash into it ... and i would actually like to find the best flowing OEM exhaust manifold and see how that runs
i have a WRX for my turbo needs and im planning to build a 2006 STI Forester as well ... so please dont post that crap here

You won't be able to free up and considerable power from the D series without FI. Or swapping in a B series for a little more power. Whats mods on the wrx and forester?

Re: Giving some zing to my D15B7
If your looking for a little bit of a gain for a pretty fair price, you could do a mini-me swap (bolt on and wire up a D16Z6 Head) that will also pump your compression to 10.22:1 (according to Zeal Auto Werks calculator)
good luck

I don't think you will get much feed back on asking about a N/A D15B7. Even in the name of fun I don't see the point in building one. Good luck though...

The Honda Orthia. the 6th gen civic wagon made exclusively in japan and leaked gradually through out the world as grey market imports.

Re: Giving some zing to my D15B7
to the dude that said a header doesn't make a diff.. WRONG
i picked up a HP racing 4-2-1 and it made a difference along with my sRi.
of course its not like nitrous or slapping on a turbo.. but it helps..
most people start out with intake , header and exhaust..
u can also bolt on an Integra throttle body
as for headwork... a bisimoto stage 1 cam with valves, springs and retainers will up the HP..
if you really want to keep that motor, you can also do a Mini-Me swap with a d16z6 head.
check out import tuner's power pages.. they put bolt ons onto cars and dyno the results.. it will give you some insight.. http://www.importtuner.com/powerpages/index.html
I hope this helps

Re: Giving some zing to my D15B7
my friend has an em1 with the d16y8, and when he put dc headers on, it made a hell of a difference.
on mine i basically put all my money into appearnce, alot of the performance on a d-series makes the car look pretty anyways so i do it (intake, exhaust, headers) lol. and it does help.

Re: Giving some zing to my D15B7
not really answering your question....but at a bare minimum swap in a Z6 or y8. you can still get great mileage and have some fun for pretty cheap. thats bare minimum......if you insist on keeping a D and want some more liveliness outta the engine then a small turbo setup is your best bet. you said you arent worried about big numbers but the NA potential of a D series with bolt-ons is pretty pathetic. i also need to throw in that i LOVE the D series..........but i see its limitations.

a b18a would be a cheap alternative. it's cheap, has pretty good torque, gas mileage and if you want to ls/vtec down the road, you already have your setup. probably get everything under $1k

As for which IM to use its up to how you want the motor to perform.. the z6 has longer runners and would create more power in the top end of your power band and the y8 has shorter runners which would cause it to be a little more torquey in the lower rpms but not yield as much power top end
The throttle body probably isnt necessary considering your motor is mostly stock.. and i dont have much experience with cams and single slammers but i think zex makes a good cam and im sure any cam gear would make it perform better if its tuned right

I say either port your existing exhaust manifold or get a Z6 one and port that one.. thats probably the only way your going to get it to flow any better

Re: Giving some zing to my D15B7
bottom line, D series is a errible place to start a N/A build unless you have VERY deep pockets.......AND a b7 isnt even the best D to start with......a Z6, Y8, or JDM D15B would be your best places to start.
