Axle won't fully insert in transmission 92 EG
Any ideas on why this won't insert all the way? It's about an 1/8" to 3/16" from the tranny housing and the car is leaking transmission fluid as a result.
I replaced the original driver's side axle on the car because it was clicking in turns. Purchased one from autozone and gave up the original "bad" axle as a core. Figured there was a problem with the autozone axle so I returned the first one and now the second autozone axle is doing the same thing.
Car is a stock 92 civic lx sedan with a replacement d15b engine. P20 tranny, all engine mounts are in good shape.

I took the C-clip off completely and the axle wouldn't insert any more than before. Is there any problem in the transmission that would prevent the axle from being fully inserted?

its probably the wrong axle you have then....
return it and compare it to another new one they have instock....or better yet if they still have your core have them pull that out of the box and measure the length of the stub shaft.

Is the P20 transmission the stock transmission? I know it has a jdm engine (d15b), however maybe the transmission accepts a different axle???

Left is from a Crx for reference (Looks identical to the EG driver's side). Middle is the driver's side EG axle I'm having problems with. Right is the passenger's side EG axle.
Still have no idea what's causing the issue???
Try sticking the passenger inner CV into the drivers side of the trans. The sleeve is bigger on the one your having problems with. If you can get the passenger axle fully seated into the drivers side like it should be, then most likely you have the wrong axle.
I figured it out, I had the correct axle the whole time...The axle seal was pushed in roughly 3/4" into the transmission housing slot rather than being flush with the outer edge like it's supposed to. When I tried installing the axle, the seal acted as an obstruction and kept the axle from inserting all the way in. Thanks for the replies
Hmm, for the newbies among us (me included), can you explain exactly what was wrong? I'm not clear on what you're describing as the "axle seal".
Sir, you "prolly" have a reading deficiency or failed to read all of the above posts. Axle seal was the problem as stated directly above.

#10 is the axle seal aka "Oil seal" as described on the Honda parts diagram...

Yes you'll have to remove the old seal and replace it with a new one. See the link in post #16 or try Southbay Honda for parts too.
Or your local dealer. Not sure about after market seals.Cheap seals are one of the spare parts I tend to keep around.

i fixed it! for people in the future, just pull it out with a flathead, mount it on the axle and with the axle already in the hub, use the hub to force the axle in. should sit flush with no leaks or exposing of the axle as seen on the picture.
