OK - WHO IS THE TECH PRO? AXLE PROBLEM 92 CIVIC/GSR/ITR TRANNY
Ok - I am seriously stumped... Trying to replace tranny side (passesnger) axle. Car is a 92 hatch with gsr motor and itr tranny. I took the old axle out and went to Partsource to buy a new one and trade the core in (first problem - do not have original axle anymore). I got a 94 GSR (non ABS) axle and checked it at the store - looked the same length etc...
Now here is the problem: the axle is about 1" too short... It pops out of the tranny whenever I try to tighten the axle nut. If I push it all the way into the tranny then there is no threads sticking out on the outer side so I cannot put the nut on. NOW - THIS WAS THE SAME LENGTH AS THE AXLE I JUST TOOK OUT!!! WTF!!!
Only thing I can think of is when I initially tried to put it in I used a piece of wood and a hammer to lightly bang it into the transmission. Could this have somehow damaged (shortened) the axle??? I need some help please!!!

first of all...CV axles are designed to go in and out to a certain degree, if a slight tug on the axle pulls it out of the tranny the C clip on the end is worn out and needs to be replaced, even if its a new axle replace the C clip
someone said once the surface on the inside of the diff where the C clip rests may be worn, is that even possible?!?!?!

It only pulls out cause it was not all the way in... when i put it all the way in then I cannot put the axle nut on... The axle seems .5 - 1" too short

One thing to try would be once you get it to that .5-1 in spot to turn your steering all the way to the right, then use the wood block and tap your brake rotor. Thats how Ive done it a couple times. Just dont wail on the out side of the rotor, more closer to the hub, so it doesnt damage.
