h22 Balancer shaft drive gear wont move??
So I am replacing my timing belt and when I took off the front cover I found a shredded balancer belt. My question: is the balancer belt drive gear supposed to move freely? I tried to align the shaft by hand but it wont budge.
The pin is out. This thing is frozen in there. Could this have affected the crank or any other internal parts? What are my options? I was thinking of putting a 2x4 on the pulley and hammering it with a mallet to get it loose?
If it's siezed then just forcing it to turn is not a likely solution as the bearing(s) are prolly screwed. The cheapest/easiest thing to do do is to just not use the BSs at all. Do not fix it, do not run them, just leave the belt off. You'll have a slight increase in the vibration eminating from the engine but no other reliability issues, short or long term.
Alternatively you can pull the engine and remove them and apply a Kaizenspeed blockoff kit or the $20 DIY one that can be found in the FAQ. OR you can totally pull the block apart and fix it right and replace the galled BS shaft and the bearings so that it's back to proper functioning order.
