B20B4 vs. B20B - What's the difference??
My buddy brought me his CRV w/B20B4 in it. He has low mileage B20B that he wanted me to put in it. I noticed some of the pieces are different (one off the bat is the A/C bracket - no biggie). But looking further I noticed the B20B4 has a crank angle sensor, but the B20B doesn't. If I'm correct, these both came from the 97-98 CRV. So what's the difference b/w the two? Can I still put the B20B in the CRV? Thanks!
I love my friends lol.
To make it work, you either need to use an older CRV ECU (still have the possibility of a CEL, but it'll run fine), or swap the B20B4 oil pump (so that you can retain the crank angle sensor) over to the B20B.

hey, doing the exact same job on my 98 crv just wondering how everything turned out and if you swapped the oil pump or just did the bypass and what the results were any help would be appreciated thx
It all depends on what kind of emissions inspection they do in your area. If they do a visual check to see that all emissions components are in place, you'll fail without a crank angle sensor. Most shops don't care enough to do a full visual inspection, so they would never know if you have the sensor or not. If you're not in an area with strict inspections or don't have to pass one at all then just do the bypass at the ecu.
