Default black soot in turbo & I/C hot pipe

like the title states i noticed in my used turbo kit i got there is soot in the i/c hot side pipes.. there is no residue in the cold side.. the owner said the turbo was used for 10k, it has no shaft play which it does not and that he ran the wastgate without a dump and considers that to be the source of the soot... ive touched it and it isnt oily or greasy it is very similar to whats on your exhaust tip?

is this oil and not exhaust? is this thing toast? (precision sc61)

I would have to guess that soot from the dumptube was being sucked in by the turbo. Did he run a air filter?

Sounds like it is carbon soot buildup from the wastegate exhaust being sucked into the system.
