Well im thinking of ways to get these bushings off my Front lower and upper LCA. Shop wants to charge me about 20 bux for each bushing which is crap. I can buy a damm 12ton press for what ill pay for 6 bushings. And i dont know anyone with a press. Was looking around for tools and im wondering if this would work

From comparing prices on what they want to charge me and what i can afford...which one of these would work best?

remove lca, drill rubber bushing cores out with 7/8 or 1 1/8 " hole saw, you dont need to torch the rubber, **** reaks and is messy. Sawszall two notches in the metal outer ring being careful not to cut into the control arm and tap out the metal ring. bushings removed.

to install rent the balljoint install tool from autozone for free. Press in new bushings, be sure they are lined up straight before pushing them in, a little oil on the outside helps as well, but they go in easy as long as they are lined up. As for the upper control arms I just replaced the whole unit, but the two outside bushings can be replaced using a threaded rod and some washers, search youtube for that setup.

Ok..thanx ill maybe try that. But it seems a little tricky. And i already tried mickey mouse tricks to get them out. I dont have the time to F with these things. Thats why i opted to buy the press. Might come in handy down the road again any how. Plus i got the ok from the wifey.

I don't know about that method of getting them in but, you can get each bushing out really easily in about 5-10 mins by the above method. The only thing I might add or clarify is when cutting the notches. Keep the cuts close together about the thickness of a pencil apart, then use a punch to catch the lip of the ring pushing in towards the center. Once it gets started keep hitting the small slice you made but now hit it down through the center with the punch trying to curl the cut piece up. Once enough of the little slice has been pushed up it will generally fall out. Mine were frozen really bad (30 ton press wouldn't remove them) and this worked great, I used a press to get them back in though.
You could always buy/rent the press (return after use) from H.F. but I always use a tool more then once if I ever need it so buying it usually works out.
