95 stock cx overheating
1. check the fan to make sure the fan isnt blowing the wrong way.
2. cracked cylinder head
3. warped cylinder head
everything else, just throw a new motor in it. if that fails, then dont drive a honda anymore

A popped head gasket on its own will NOT make the engine overheat. The head gasket allows coolant to make its way into the cylinder when its burned off during normal combustion...when you're low on coolant the car, in turn, overheats.
That being said...there's no reason why the 8v 1.5 should overheat...those radiators are good enough to cool boosted gsr's w/ out an issue. Try letting the car idle with the rad cap off, there's probably an air pocket in the coolant system.

pop the cap off of your coolant overflow...if it's milky then you have a popped headgasket.
but again, even if the headgasket is popped that doesnt make you overheat, you'd have to burn off a good amount of coolant first in order to overheat

STEEL VS ALUMINUM - steel wins. so now tell me, how does the headgasket "pop" on a honda if its steel vs its aluminum head/block..
what you are trying to say is the cylinder head is warped.. headgaskets dont blow on hondas anymore its pretty much not possible unless you try to push 50 psi on a stock motor then you MIGHT slightly damage the headgasket. if you are a mechanic and you work on all sorts of vehicles you will notice that older head gaskets and head gaskets for more of the v8 motors (older years) were actaully made of simillar stuff as our paper intake manifold gaskets.. those used to be the gaskets that "popped" soooooooo to the OP, before you go ahead and put a new gasket on it make you resurface the cylinder head other wise you will have the same problem as it goes back on.
just fyi tho.
back to my problem, i dont think its head gasket or warped (pressure checked). every possibility im aware of has been elimated . taken to repair shop twice , couldnt find any problem. what temp should fan come on . mech says 225
well first sympton was eratic idle. check the iac. clean it out to make sure its not clogged. there is one other spot you can check and thats the fitv it sits under the throttle body. take it off and clean it too
popped hg huh? round these parts we say blown hg.. sorry, it was just botherin me lol.
anywho, to me it does sound like a blown hg. exhaust gases leaking into the coolant jacket will over-pressurize the lines and cause the coolant to 1. stop circulating properly which leads to overheating, and 2. cause the coolant to be pushed into the overflow. i had a mustang and the hg blew the same way. overheated, excess coolant in overflow, and no white smoke out the *** end. now maybe it's not the hg, but i would be suprised after everything i've read thus far.
you might also try a cylinder leakdown test in all 4 cylinders. most likely you will find one or 2 adjoining cylinders allowing air to leak into the coolant jacket and you will see air bubbles come out of your radiator while performing the test.

i had the exact same issue on my 1994 CX (d15b8) and it was the head gasket causing the overheating... needless to say i had the symptoms of a blown head gasket (milky oil, overheating, and burning of coolant). i used an OE replacment gasket and replaced it for the blown one which took all of 3 hours including cleaning everything. i noticed before i replaced the head gasket that i had an extremely low idle. and after i replaced it on its first start i had an erratic idle (800- 1500 RPM). i checked my timing which was dead on and then removed to the IACV which was casuing the problem.
i would try to replace the gasket. its not hard if you have worked on Honda vehicles before and it will cost you only $40 for the HG ,EX. mani gasket and valve cover gaskets
