h22a with no serial number?????
I bought a complete h22a swap at the jdm shop.
When I checked the engide code, I noticed that there was no serial number on it ...
It's not buffed, not grinded, not repunched, it's exactly the same punch that other honda code, at the same place, with the same rough cast finish on the aluminium...
Somebody have any answer for this?
It's like Spoon engine .... but spoon never built h22a block ?
Here's a pic..

it's not grinded after the "A" it seem to be an other engine sitting on that during the trip japan/canada

Looks like the 1 in a1 was ground off.I have a true jdm h22a and it only says that,no marks whatso ever.My head is dated mid 96 though, also the original last 8? vin is stamped also, must be a toyoko thing(MI and cali cars r the same way.
Looks to be an American engine with the last number scrubbed off.
Back about 10 years ago when engines weren't as common as they are now. If we blew our engine, chances are we'd be engineless for a long time or we'd have to go to the dealer. I bought a couple of B18Cs from the dealer and they came without any stampings at all. On one of mine, I stamped it B18C, but I left the others blank. I'm guessing that engine has either been scrubbed very well or it came new from Honda not installed in a car.

"at the jdm shop" that sounds real authentic, theres no real jdm shops in america or canada, just importers. i think the chances of another engine scraping or sitting against the stamped part of the block is slim. and yes it does look as if somebody purposely "grinded" it off. if you look at the area i outlined in red it looks con-caved or "not straight" as if someone grinned that part down then took the time to sand or smooth it over. i could be wrong (its my guess) but it looks the obvious. BTW, where is this supposed jdm shop located and how much did you pay for this engine? the reason i ask is im curious if that same shop you bought the engine from sells usdm motors and if there is actually a difference in the price between the two
after seeing your block i wanted to check up on mine, heres a pic of my engine serial number. sorry its a mess, its been sitting for a while and awaiting a complete build up. as far as i know my engine is a genuine japanese motor. i wonder why yours would not have the serial number, this is the first case ive seen where an engine is missing one. anyhow, maybe yours never went straight into a car but was dropped in later (as someone suggested). i doubt its from a stolen car... if that was something you were concerned about.
That's already been explained. And if you open your eyes, you'd see that the scratch is too close to the A to have removed a numeral, even a 1.
That is the way the JDM engines are, no number following the A.
Those scratches aren't even deep enough to completely take out the 1. And like kronn said the spacing isn't right to grind off the 1.
And if the engine was stolen they would remove the vin tag on the back of the block not the engine code.

I would say jdm h22a just like mine. The one is real far.The grinding was someone installing a fan or something.Check your head date code and report back.you have 10.6:1 compression sir, still have the black valve cover?
i can see what you mean kronn. the one thing that i keep wondering about is, what would anybody get out of removing the one?? wouldnt make a great marketing scheme. if i recall correctly the usdm h22s (that are rarely available) are more expensive than their jdm counterparts, considering we dont replace engines here in the U.S. for emissions purpose's. the fact that his block got marked up where it did makes it look fishy and at first glance its kind of easy to overlook. OP, hope you can put your mind to ease over this matter.
