This might seem like a newbie question but it is one i have to ask..But i plan on flushing my radiator and replaceing the hoses and flushing the system and replaceing the coolent before it starts to get really hot out side.

I have a 94 Ej1 with a D16z6 and i was wondering if it is safe for me to run water through the Rad. and all to flush the system completly before i start fresh. The only reason that i ask is because of the differnt routes through the Head, will oil and water mix to damage the engine?? Let me know

If oil and water are mixing in your motor, you have bigger problems then trying to flush it lol. The oil and the coolant have their own separate paths and jackets in the motor.

know anyone that works at a shop with a coolant flush machine? see if they wanna do that for u on the side. when u do it at home ur just flushing out wat is in the radiator and not the rest of the coolant in the block. water in ur motor is a definite no no. the coolant flush machine hooks up to the upper and lower radiator hoses and flushes the entire system, the block and radiator.

 

I just drained it, filled it with tap, drove it around, drained it again and filled it with 50/50. It seems to work great. Some people on here are way to **** like for something like putting tap in the radiator though.

 

Go to parts store and buy a cooling system flush which will break down the deposits in your system and should clean it decent,then just follow directions on the bottle.

 

I know water in the engine is a no-no, i was just asking if its safe to flush it all out with water! Thanks again for the reply's!

The rad @ oil r different paths brotha putting water in rad should never mix with oil in any means. And 2nd flushing your own ride is better than any. I pull my rad @ thermostat @ then flush my motor and radiator basicly the system flush. Most engines stay realy gunky and leading to gunk up the rad again. 3rd put all back together with some radiator flush and drain ,then pour in your new coolant.

 

Ever smell the radiator flush you buy at stores...? Smells like water. If you want some real cleaning power and want to see globs of deposits come out of your cooling system use some CLR. Just make sure you get it all out of there and flush it with water again before you put coolant in. Good luck and give it a shot!

 

Really CLR, i have silicone hoses that wont eat it will it..

 

yes you will just fine to do this, I know many people that do and have done this including myself.
Make sure you have the heater on full blast and you will fine.

EDIT-to use water, i have never used clr nor to i plan to use it.

I think it may be one of those "hillbilly tricks", like putting loctite on bearings to keep them from spinning.

 

LOL..loctite, i have heard that but i thought the CLR was differnt cause it eats stuff off copper pipe and im not putting that in my Rad..

So basically all i need to do is, have the car running drain the radiator, run the hose through it, and then turn the car off and fill it up with some anti freeze.

 

I have ran the CLR before, not bad at all
