Clutch problems?
I think my clutch is gone. I was driving home from work yesterday just fine. But right before I got to my girlfreind's house I was shifting from 2nd to 3rd and it kinda pop. Like I could hear it and feel it. After that my car drove perfect for some reason. My engine wasnt bogging like it normaly does and there was no bucking. It was heaven, my car fixed itself. But as I was on my road I was going from 3rd to neutral my shifter got stuck in third. I yanked it into neutral and just coasted home. I could not shift into any gears at that point. Shut my car off and i can shift into every gear just fine. Start it back up and I cant shift again. So I decide to start in 1st. I drive it a little bit and then it gets stuck in 3rd again. Stop, shut off car, start in 1st, and now gets stuck in 1st. My dad came and picked me up and we filled the tranny fluid and topped of the clutch fluid. He decides to drive it home from here. And this is where I sit. I have seem to have found out that it may be the clutch not fully disengaging. So what do you guys think? Btw its a 95 Civic EX.
Watch the clutch slave cylinder while someone presses the clutch and see how much it is moving. You can also put it in gear, press the clutch and see if the car can be moved easily when pushed.
I wish I could of tried that. Im at work currently. But my girlfreinds dad said when my car was off and I was pushing in the clutch it (it might have something to do with the slave cylinder, but it has an L shaped boot covering it) would move so far but when my car was on and the clutch was pressed in it only moved about half as much.
You can stretch the boot to pull it back and see the slave cylinder better. If you haven't already, start by checking the fluid level in the reservoir and bleeding the system. If the reservoir was full and bleeding didn't fix the problem, get a replacement master cylinder. Purchase a new one from a parts store and save the receipt so you can return it if the issue persists.
Ok. Well i already have plans to replace the clutch anyways. But the fluid was full, I just topped it off just to make sure. I put a little fluid in just to make sure. But why would fluid get in the lines all of a sudden? And this a pic of a d15 that I got off the internet but that boot is what I was talking about that only moved halfay when the car was started.
Yeah, that's the slave cylinder dust boot. If you pull the part of it out of the tranny, you can carefully flip that side of the boot inside out and pull it back over the slave cylinder in order to observe how the release fork is moving. When you say why would fluid get in the lines, I assume you mean why would something else get in the lines. There are a couple rare circumstances that can cause that. One example is if something other than hydraulic fluid got into the reservoir by one way or another. If gases or incorrect liquids in the hydraulic system turn out to be the problem, you get em out and watch to see how long it takes them to return, if they do.
Yes I was talking about the fork under that part of the boot. It was only moving like halfway. And yes i meant air in my lines. (oh noes i have fluid in my line
). How would I get something out of the lines? Just bleed it till it comes out? Or will it be the first thing pushed out?

Yep, just bleed it awhile and see if that makes a difference. You want to replace all of the fluid in the system when you bleed it. The thin capillary tubes don't hold much so about half a small bottle of fluid will flush out the system. It doesn't hurt to bleed a little extra, also. If it does help, you then keep an eye on the fluid level as you drive it, seeing if the problem returns or if it was an isolated incident. When bleeding, the main concern is to not let air get in through the bleeder screw. Either use a vacuum pump designed for bleeding or make sure to close the bleeder valve before fluid stops coming out.
Thanks for all the replies and help man. But I just wanted to know what else it could be other than the clutch. The clutch is in and it drives perfect now.
I got a question to relation... if my resevior had no fluid in it (slave cyl) would that cause my gears to pop out also? i mean i know there can be so many reason such as:
going for cheap to expensive...
1: no fluid in slave cylinder
2: transmission flushed (recommended not to flush by dealer just leak it out)
3: bad clutch
4: bad synchro's which leads to bad tranny! and time to REBUILD!!!
correct me if i'm wrong.... help me out.
