Icon2 Cruise Control NOT WORKING

Hey all,

I have a 93 del Sol and the Cruise just decided to stop working...

The light on the cruise switch on the dash is not even coming on. It worked fine and then just stopped with no warning.

I have checked:
fuses, clutch and break peddle switches, I changed the dash switch but still have the same problem. all the wiring looks fine and I just don't know where or what else to check.

I am at whits end... :-) I can't stand that it is not working but don't want to have to take it to Honda. Can someone please help.

You need to buy a multimeter so that you can troubleshoot the problem. For example, does the Blk/Yel wire in the main switch connector have battery voltage with the key in ON(II)? Does the Blk ground wire show continuity to body ground?

Thanks for that... I did all that as well and everything seems to be in working order... I have come to the conclusion that there is nothing else it could be but the Cruise Control Module. I have changed it but have not tested it yet... Will test it later on the road and post the results......:-)

The check engine light is not on... and changing the CCM did not fix the problem... This is driving me crazy... it has to be something simple but can't seem to find it...:-)

Do you have a multimeter and do you know how to use it to measure voltage and resistance? If so, what was the voltage reading at the Blk/Yel wire and the resistance reading at the Blk wire?

I think this is a constant problem in the 93 del Sol Si, and I've seen a couple threads about the same issue.

My Sol is doing the EXACT same thing. My cruise control doesn't work or even light up on the dash. My MPH also only reads up to 30mph and I have to be going real fast for it to even reach that far.

I replaced the VSS sensor and still no luck.

I'm going to let my mechanic friend check it out and see if he can solve the problem. If he fixes it I'll post up what the problem is.

The OP does not have the EXACT same problem because the light on his SWITCH does not turn on and there's no mention that his speed does not work.

Man, the only way to fix this is to get the honda service manual and following the troubleshooting.. I've got the same problem with my cruise control and I still haven't figured it out yet.. The cruise control button works but the light never shows on the gauge cluster and if that doesn't light up, no cruise.. I've tested a bunch of wires which turned out to be ok but there were some that didn't work and that's where I'm going to have to work from..

Thought I should update and say that the issue turned out to be an intermittent clutch switch. I ended up taking out the clutch switch and testing it for continuity during the super bowl. I found that partial pressing of the switch, there was a connection but then at full press no connection. So during the game, I pushed in and released the button several hundred times times, twisting the button and whatnot with my finger, just kept pushing it in and releasing it. I then tested it for continuity when pressed and found that the switch was no more intermittent and worked continuously like it was suppose to. Put the switch back in my car and if I find that it starts to act up again, I'll just replace the clutch switch altogether but for now it works fine.

Theory is that internally the electrical contacts were corroded slightly so by pushing the button a bunch of times, it re-scratched the contacts internally, making for a now clean, good connection. I also cleaned up the electrical contacts where the harness plugs into the switch, because they looked slightly corroded.
