ive had friends that just cut nice chunks out of the crossmember, but yes the crossmember is for stability itll wack out your alignment if you remove it, almost positive.

as for aftermarket replacements i have never heard of any

You can notch it slightly, it just depends exactly where you are having clearance issues. Can you post a few pics of the problem area?

Looks like clocking the turbo might provide the necessary clearance there...

Well just to inform you, There are a few after market company's that makes racing cross member / traction bars, The only thing is that they are not cheap, I paid 400 for mine from full-race.com.. And it gives you plenty of room to do what ever you please and provides better traction and stops wheel hop , I had the same issue with my turbo and my down pipe and i didnt really trust cutting the stock cm, Plus im trying to save as much weight as possible.. Google it first u might find some cheaper just remember not all come with the front mount option.. good luck

Thats the link to the c/m ^, You dont have to buy it but this is the best design you can get for a DA

If you plan on drag racing, yes. They are benificial in some road-racing and auto cross scenarios as well. It will reduce wheel hop, and eliminate it in some cases, with other supporting suspension parts.

Traction bars are great for just about everybody.
