if its your first time on the track, id say shoot for mid-high 16s and be happy. launching depends on the tire size, condition, tread pattern, and type (all season/performance/etc) but you should launch between 2800-4k, slip the clutch and go. shift when you feel the powerband run out, and if the track will allow you to have a passenger, take someone more experienced with you and maybe even watch them make a pass in your car and WATCH them. with my d15b7, my best time was a 18.06 which is very slow, but was made with extra crap in my trunk (~50 lbs, so no real biggie) and 13" steelies. my last run in february was a 16.1 on the same steelies, and im hoping for a 15.2 or better on some bigger wheels next month.

You have a slow commuter car. Learning to drive from someone who knows what they are doing will help you more than we can.
Good luck, let us know how it goes. The first time or two going down, do not worry about your time at all. Get comfortable first, then start ripping it up and experimenting. And +1 to talking to people there.
