power windows problem
I have a 2000 honda civic si, but for some reason my power window on the driver side isnt working properly, it does not close fully all the way, when its close to the top with a minor gap to the top and the windows seems to keep trying to close all the way but does not, i can hear and see the window moving, any ideas on what it is? think it needs a new motor ?

Re: power windows problem
Some teeth are probably broken from the window regulator and is not letting the window go all the way up.
I do not know the appropriate name of that specific part though.

Re: power windows problem
What you should do is buy a oem regulator or aftermarket your choice and take it to a shop. It will make things easier, so you wont have to wait for them to order the part, and you will know what part is going to your car.

Re: power windows problem
well i have looked at hondas site and it ranges up to 100 dollars for that piece alone, from that picture you have to buy the whole part, but i have also looke at like autozone and they do carry it, but it has to be special ordered from where im at, but its only around 30 bucks, hope i can install it and it works fine.

Yes install it yourself so you could learn.
Civic are very common to have that problem so next time it happens you already know what to do.

Re: power windows problem
I just fixed this problem on my 2000 SI. I bought a new regulator from majestic honda(hondaautomotiveparts.com) for like $60 and fixed it myself in a matter of 20 minutes or so. Once you take the regulator out, you will see the teeth ground down

Re: power windows problem
Very common problem. If I recall, Honda improved the design on the regulator, so if you were to buy OEM, it'll be nicer than the one that's falling apart in your door currently. Not all too difficult to replace, just be careful with the moisture guard if you're reusing it and with taking the glass out.
Speaking of, I still need to replace mine.

Re: power windows problem
The regulators bent in both cars, caused at least in part because the window tracks within the doors were not properly lubricated in so long.
It seems power and manual windows both have this issue. In fact, the manual windows had it far worse on the two cars I mentioned above.
My '98 EX coupe has had zero problems though. I've lubricated the tracks with silicone spray every so often (DO NOT USE white lithium grease - it's for metal on metal and can damage plastic and rubber). I've had this car for seven years without a problem.
Oh, and never force your windows up if you begin to see they're slowing down while going up or down.
