i'm considering lowering my car 2 inches, if i buy replacement lowering springs for my car is that all i need, my shocks and struts seems in good shape. just wondering if id need anything besides the springs.

and would i have a problem fitting 16 inch wheels im looking into rota track r's but i might have to get 15' im thinking it would work out better.

Putting lowering springs on stock struts will cause for a bumpy ride and they will get blown faster.

 

^^ what he said about the ride my eg rides like a cadi compared to previous ek both dropped eg with tokico blues ek without, and youll be fine on the wheels as long as they have low pro tires of the proper size to your drop

 

If you want a good ride you need quailty shocks, meant for a lowerd car.... Not kyb gr-2 or tokico blue, they are noithing more then oem replacement.

 

You can use the Kyb-gr2 struts, just use the Tein s-tech springs and you will be fine they ride like stock height. And yes you can put 16-inch wheels once you have the right offset etc. The car will feel like you never drop it, I'm talking from experience as i have 00 si drop on tein s-tech with kyb gr-s struts and my other friends have the same set up also with no problem.

 

Using the stock struts will just make your car bouncy and people will laugh at you for being a "ricer". If you want a good set of shocks, I'd go with the KYB AGX's. They are a decently good functional shock and are also 4 way adjustable. I think they run around $80-$90 a piece. I had my sol lowered about 2 inches, and had them on there for around 5 years and never had a single one blow on me. I would also invest in a camber kit if your planning on going as low as 2 inches. I went through a new set of tires almost every year until I got the camber correction on the sol. Skunk2 makes a decent front camber kit offering +5-5 adjustments, and as long as you use locking washers, it should never slip out of adjustment.

 

You should be able to run either size rim, as long as you get the appropriate sized tire. As far as the springs go, you can run them on stock shocks, but it may not be ideal. I ran around for years with Eibach Pro Kits on stock shocks on my old 93 coupe without a problem in the world. Your results may vary. Now if you are looking to get a quality shock, I would recommend the Koni Sports (aka yellows). They are even on sale right now through the end of June at a 25% discount. I was able to get a set for $460 shipped to my door and they are great. MUCH better than KYB AGX (That's what I used to have), and about the same price as well. Good luck with your decision.

I've heard lots of good things about yellows. I'm pretty sure they're rebuildable as well in case you DO go a little too low

I have had stock struts with S-Techs on my '98 coupe for a long time now. First off, the stock struts haven't blown out. Second, I've never been called a ricer or anything bad for it.

The car rides nice and smooth. It's not uncomfortable. It's very much a stock ride quality, just lower.

 

I just put coilovers on mine, but before them I had H&R springs on stock struts. Mine did not blow out either. It road perfectly fine and comfortable as well. I was never referred to as a ricer with that setup either.

The only thing I will say with the wheel size is to watch the offset you get. Unless you don't rolling fenders and what not, stay close to stock offset and width.

Also after you lower it wouldn't hurt to get a good alignment.
