Brake rotor recommendations?
Apologies for the cross-post (also in EG forum), but seems like a lot of the smart people reside over here. Anyway......
Just like it sounds. I'd like to hear your opinions and/or experiences. I'm looking at stock sized ones right now. The car is/will be used for street/autoX with the possibility of some lapping, but that's not in the picture for the moment. I've got Axxis Ultimates front and rear on the way from Andie at Cobalt.
I had cross drilled Brembos (stock sized) on my old car, and with Axxis Metal masters they were really nice. I had no problems with cracking at all.
So what do you guys recommend? Blanks? Slotted? Drilled? Both? Dimpled? Does the brand make a huge difference? I mean, APC doesn't make rotors (do they? )......
TIA!
Steve
P.S. Car is a 93 del Sol Si (4 wheel disc) w/99 Civic Si front brakes (10.3" rotor)

Slotting/Crossdrilling weakens the rotor. This has been proven. I doubt you will see a problem on the street and probably not in an autocross situation but track duty can crack them. Rotors, pads and tires are all consumables. Stick with the cheapest blanks you can find and just burn them up. Most of the racers here do just that.
Here is about the most thorough thrashing of the subject I have ever seen. 30 pages worth of blingers arguing with racers. You make the call . . .

Ok, thanks for the responses. I figured that machining the rotor would weaken it for "heavy duty use". I guess most likely I'll maintain the stock sized rotors unless fade becomes a serious issue. I take it even a fastbrakes type rotor-only size upgrade (to 11" or so) is unnecessary on the street? Just the rotor, not the caliper.....
Is there a difference (quality, durability, etc) between the various "autozone" brands - the prices range pretty widely from under $25 to over $75. Is there a reason for this?
Thanks
Steve

It seems that they may be worth the money, depending on how quickly you burn them up.
If you're going to burn them up really fast no matter what, probably better to buy two sets of OEM rotors than one set of Brembo OE's even if the Brembo ones would last say...one event longer.
You're still going to need to replace them eventually, so just get the least expensive ones that do the job.
[Edit]
Actually...I was just looking at rotors on http://www.thepartsbin.com
The Brembo OE blanks are cheaper than the other OE replacements.
Ignore what I said above.

I guess considering what could happen if a rotor fails on track (ITC CRX being a slow car still gets moving), I run OEM Honda rotors with my Hawk Blues.
While I may try Brembo OEMs, I will not run Napa, Autozone, etc on a race car. While there may not be a difference, I will not take the chance...
There has got to be a reason for the price difference other than markup. Honda buys rotors by the truckload so the cost has got to be pretty low compared to NAPA, etc.

$.02
try summitracing.com, i believe they have brembo blanks for around $30
brembo blanks are FAR higher quality than the autozone $19 rotors. i've used both and the quality difference is plainly obvious
