Yup, it finally happened man! Honda has announced that they will end the production of the Honda Civic Type R, the last car in the the Type R lineage, this summer. Honda sited that this is due to poor sales of cars with relatively poor gas mileage.
Translated article:
On April 15th, we learned that the production of the Civic Type R, the sports version of the Honda Civic 4 door sedan, will come to an end. This is due to poor sales due to poor gas mileage and in addition to the difficulty of controlling emissions. This will also be officially announced on the 19th.
The "Type R" brand has been the symbol of Honda's sports car image, and has had a solid following by its fans. Models such the Integra and NSX have been configured to be "Type Rs", however the Civic Type R is only model currently available on the domestic market that retains the Type R brand.
There were plans to import the Civic Type R Euro, which is the 3 door hatch back version produced in the U.K., however if the plans fall through, this could mean the end of the existence of Type R brand within the Japanese Domestic Market.
The Civic Type R was originally produced in 1997, for sports minded fans who can appreciate a high performance sports car.

Yeah right. Just like when Chevy stopped making the Camaro..........and now look what happened. Came back stronger than ever with plenty of popularity.
I'm sure the Type R will return.

well the good part is there is plenty of those engines waiting to be shipped here and dropped in older hondas. Too bad the prices are off the ****ing wall for the swaps.
It might as well be.
What else do they produce that grabs interest amongst our community?
The Integra's gone, the RDX with the K23t is gone, the R will be gone, NSX is done while it's replacement the HSV-010 will not be homolgized for the street.
Honda has been pulling one bitch move after another.

Yeah, Honda's a bunch of dumbasses.
Yes.
My childish and narrow-minded desires say yes. I have it out of my system now. It does make sense, but it disappoints me that they drop the ball on one of those demographics that appreciate what they produced in the past.
/rant.
We've been modding economy cars since 1990. The fact that there's no Type-R isn't going to change anything.
it's easy to make cars that appeal to the masses, that's why everyone else does it! there is a pretty large segment of enthusiasts who like sports models and honda has always done a good job of keeping them in the family, along with the old people, moms and teen girls.
I can vouch for this......for obvious reasons. I wouldn't be surprised if my car spontaneously combusted while sitting in the rain in 40 degree weather without a battery inside it.
