Icon3 Honda Del Sol Trunk Pop Problem Fixed!!!!!

Ok so here's the story from beginning to end..... Veh: 96 Honda Del Sol S I was pretty irritated that my trunk wouldn't pop with the latch next to the driver seat. You could see and hear the latch working but the heavy a$$ trunk wouldn't pop open. From the trunk I had to keep the key turned and lift up to get the trunk to open. My first instinct was to replace the trunk lift supports. WRONG!! I installed them and they did open the trunk faster and held stabily, however, still the same problem. ::Scratching head:: Fed up I decided to look around online. Apparently a very common problem with Del Sols due to the angle of the trunk supports and the weight of the trunk itself. I stumbled upon a thread that said adjust the rubber bumpers on the corners of the trunk. I was like "Wow, could it really be that easy?" Yes and no. I did that and voila!! The trunk popped and stayed open!!! Excellent I said until I looked at the trunk closed. Not very pretty. Big gaping space between the taillights and the trunk lid. That just won't do. The trunk lid needs to be closer to the body in order to look natural. How could I do this? Upon looking closer I noticed that there were several layers to the latch mounted to the trunk lid that looked removable. Removing these was never an easy task. A very big screwdriver with a wrench for leverage broke those stubborn screws loose. Indeed there were 2 plates under the latch itself. Away with one, the thicker of the two of course. Wham, bam and a thank you ma'am with an adjustment to the rubber bumpers and a regular looking trunk I have. So much frustration for such an easy fix. I hear of so many people with this issue going to extremes to fix this problem. Don't mess up the car, just do it right. If this thread helps just one other person than it was worth it. Post your success, I would like to hear about it.
