Default Rear Brake Leaking!

Hey guys,

So my rear brake on the passanger side has been leaking for about 4-5 months now. I held out through the winter but now I think I need to get it fixed, since I am losing a bunch of fluid. I did some searching and I think that it is most likely my master cylinder. I do have brake fade which I thought was air in my brakes enitially. It seems that most people that have had their cylinder go bad didn't have any leaking. I really just want to get the leaking to stop until summer and I am out of school. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

If it's leaking from passenger rear brake I'd replace that first and bleed the system. If there is any leak in the system you'll have a very weak pedal.

Have to watch out too if you ran the master cylinder dry. Alot of time doing this will kill the seals inside.

Good luck!

Disc or drum rear brakes? By "master cylinder" maybe you mean "wheel cylinder" just at the right rear? As phattsi said, first replace the wheel cylinder (if that is what is leaking). You may also need to replace the shoes (if you do, do both sides unless they have recently been replaced), because they may be fouled with brake fluid. May sure you clean all the hardware, the backing plate, and the drum. Use a brake lubricant on the self adjuster and a small dab onthe backing plate where the metal sides of the shoes contact. With at least the drum back on, bleed the system. If you think you have air in the system, bleed all four wheel, left rear, right rear, left front, right front, in that order.

Thanks, I have disc brakes all around, everything was replaced by the previous owners. It looks as though it is leaking from the e-brake setup. It was only a small leak, and now it is starting to leak pretty bad. What exactly do you mean by the wheel cylinder. I thought that this was the part that needs to be replaced, I may be wrong.

Master Cylinder is located under the hood, wheel cylinder is located inside drum brake assembly, you got disc brakes...

Yes, it is possible just to replace the seals. Looks like Majestic Honda has a caliper seal set for about $19.

Total newb when it came to brakes haaa. Ended up picking up a remanufactured caliper at Advanced Auto Parts for $39.99. Stay away from Autozone bought there reman for about $80 and it didn't even fit. There catalog didn't pick up on the two different types of calipers and I recieved the wrong one for my 97' Coupe.

Hi all,
I seem to have the same problem. I just had my rear rotors replaced and a week later notice a pool of fluid by the inside of the passenger rear tire in the mornings. I have been topping up the brake fluid every couple of weeks, but I'd like to permanently stop the leak. It's a very slow drip which looks like to be coming from the emergency brake spring part. I wiped the area clean and then after a couple cycles of the emergency brake I can see the slow drip happening again. What is the possible cause and solution? My mechanic said I might have to replace the entire caliper? If so, would that stop the leak?

Thank you,
