I have an '89 Civic with 214k. It sometimes grinds going into 5th. To avoid it, I usually put it back into 4th, and then try 5th a second time. That usually fixes it.

- It may have something to do with the throwout bearings which I know are bad.

- It may be due to needing a clutch adjustment


..but I'd like to hear from anyone that has any tips.
