My car seems like its eating gas like a mofo
I put $10 in the tank on Sunday after I got to work, I drove back home and to and from work. mon tuesday and this morning it was at the same level as sunday. its a 13 mile drive to work, 2 street mile 11 highway. seems a little excessive, right?
the car hauls *** though, lots of power.i barely have to press on the gas to get it to go fast.

no. youre gettin 22.8 miles per gallon. not bad. thats $10.00 of gas at about $3.50 per gallon=2.85 gallons of gas. 5 trips between home and work from sunday (home only) and 4 trips (to and from work) on mon and tues. 65 miles total divided by 2.85 gallons=22.8 miles per gallon. like i said, not bad for a 91 accord. i have the LX and sport mode is AWSOME
O2 sensors, air filter, spark plugs, wires, tire pressure, clean out EGR valves, fresh oil change for motor and tranny, etc.
Lots of things to help improve your gas mileage. A good tune up will go a long way.
Also start keeping track of your mileage, fill your car up completely and reset the trip meter. Drive around until you get low on the tank (like 1/4 left) and fill back up all the way to the first click. Divide the miles recorded by the amount of fuel you put in and you get your MPG. Saying $10 of gas is very vague, as are your distances.

Here's the problem. Gas where I'm at for regular is not $3.50, it's more like $2.50 with Premium going for a hair under $3. He is getting lower than average gas mileage.
As I said in my post using $10 of gas and vague distances is a horrible way to attempt to determine gas mileage.
13 + 26 + 26 = 65 miles. $10 @ $2.85/gal = 3.5 gallons. 65/3.5 = 18.6 mpg - not so good. Unfortunately, you're doing a lot of guesstimating. The needle in my Accords varies a fair amount if the car is not on a level surface. Fill the tank, note the odometer reading, reset the trip odometer, then drive reasonably for at least 1/2 a tank, preferably a whole tank then do the math (divide miles driven by fuel necessary to refill the tank), even better two or three tankfuls to get a history (I am assuming you don't routinely track your fuel economy). My Accords routinely get 25+ mpg in mostly city driving (little worse in cold weather), 30+ for pure highway (depending on speed).
The basics been taken care of? Compression good, plugs, rotor, timing, wires, clean air filter, fuel filter, proper tire inflation, no check engine light, oil and transmission (auto?) fluids at proper levels, brakes not dragging, what kind of fuel do you use, etc?
Make sure you've got a problem before throwing parts at it.

i keep forgetting gas off the freeway exits are close to $3 a gallon, i was thinking i was getting like 4 gallons. anyway, i filled up today with 12 gallons, reset the trip. so ill drive for a bit fill it up, and divide the amount of gallons at that fill up by the amount of miles i drive. thanks for the info guys, ive fully tuned my car, i was leaning on the timing if it turns out that my gas milege is bad. everything else is new, cleaned and tuned, the car drives great
well as we seen, we dont know all the specifics. guestimating was our best shot. i know gas out in my other house in south carolina is like 2.20 so i cant wait to get back in a few weeks. ( if youre from there and gas isnt the same this year, please dont ruin my anticipation LOL). but i know on the sport mode i have a blast around town but i use a lot of gas too. in normal mode i get descent gas mileage. i cant complain. much better than my mustang ever gets. the 20 shot of nitrous dont help either

Keep a log. Attached is a chart of my 90's mileage since 160,000 miles. Varies between fill ups because of driving, weather, sensitivity of filler cutoff, etc. I have a similar record for all my vehicles - I am an engineer, I can't help it. Redline line/points are each individual tankful, light blue is the average of the last six fillups, dark line is cumulative since I started tracking the mileage. There is a bit of a shift downward at 237,000 when I installed a Prelude 5 speed; geared a little lower than the stock Accord. Turns almost 4 grand at 80 mph, but more fun around town.
let me know how you did it if you dont mind. i have daata loggers but they are for diesel exhaust installations and i have to weld a sensor mount on the exhaust pipe. dont think it will get MPG though LOL. let me know what i would need to get live data printed on a graph like thatif you dont mind. thanks
hey bro..did you use a data logger to get that graph? thats so badd ***

Mileage (odometer) and MPG. Then just plot the two and the axis will be automatically populated with the data. Pretty simple stuff.
*edit* He's then adding two lines for the average of the last 6 (last 6 fills) and then the overall average (cumulative).
Muffin is correct. Every time I purchase gas, I record the odometer, and trip odometer readings, on the receipt (usually use a credit card). When I get home, I plug the data into an Excel spreadsheet. Lots of places sell a simple small log book that can be used to record purchases if you tend to use cash. I enter the date, odometer reading, gallons, and purchase price in the spreadsheet, it then calculates mpg, average of last six, cummulative, and miles driven/day. I use other sheets in the same file to record maintenance activity and cost.
