Default Exhaust Question

Today I bought an exhaust thinking it would fit my 97 civic DX coupe, but where the system joins the header, the exhaust has a three bolt flange and the DX has a two, any idea what car this exhaust is meant for being that it is the exact length and shape of the old one?

you sure it's not the catalytic converter that goes in between the exhaust system and the header? because on one side of the cat there are two bolts and the other has 3

That would be it. The exhaust system isnt meant to hook right up to the header. It is supposed to have a cat in the middle. The three bolt flange is to bolt to the cat.

the cat is in the engine bay, then the intermediate pipe goes under the engine, and the exhaust system is supposed to connect to the pipe on the other side of the cat / intermediate pipe or whatever.

dx's are differnt, our cats are in the exhuast manifold. So, if you have a stock mani you will need a dx exhuast or have the other modified to fit.

is it a oem exhuast or aftermarket?

Aftermarket. Thank you for the response, that makes much more sense.

go to a muffler shop and have them weld on the correct flange and extend or shorten the mid pipe if needed.
