T3 with built in waste gate better?
Is it better to have a turbo with a built in waste gate? seen one on E-bay with built in waste gate. I have no concept here, its all new to me. I thought I seen where someone was saying about welding the gate closed on a built in one to make it better. Is this true? I want it for a basic daily driver that if I ahve a mind to step on it, I want it to be able to go and go FAST . I have a 85 CRX w/1.5 carb. ( don't see injectors on it ) Will this work?
I think you'll need a blow thru carb to be able to turbo it. On the WG thing, what people are talking about is welding the internal wastegate shut so it won't open...which will allow you to run an external WG. On a T3 this is not necessary. You can use an exhaust flange on your DP that covers the entire exhaust side so that the internal WG deal is blocked.
Externals are better, but internals work, obviously since like 99% of factory turbo cars use an internal.
