Default H5 is BACK!!!!

ECHC race group H5 is back and in a big way!!!

First off congrats to Richard F. and Chris D.

Each had one win and both days were nose to tail............. and both CRUSHED my little Civic!

Both Richard and Chris drove great races and left me in the dust. I figured this was going to be a long weekend but......WOW!

Lowes is very, unforgiving to low HP, lite race cars.........

HOWEVER!

This is very heartening for the series. Richard (& Chris) have raised the level of performance in H5 very high. Their lap times were super quick and were mixing it up in the H4 ranks.

Hopefully in 2003 we will have 5-6+ full time H5 cars in the field.

But Beware!

If you plan on racing Floyd in 2003!

Start building now and you better not short cut any important performance pieces because he will OWN you! Just go ahead and mail your checkbook to OPM. ( and....... send yourself to skip barber)
----Damn, I think he is still building a motor and getting a new Puckett header!

See ya at the more Civic friendly venue.......... VIR!!

John
H5

Note to future H5 Civic buyer:
Skip the Lowes weekend and take the wife to the beach!

Both guys drove a hell of a race. They both rolled me on the Sunday start and we went into turn 1 three wide. I venture to guess there was less than 10 inches separating the three of us at that time and we made it out clean. It was one of those moments that I play in my head over and over again...simply magic.

Karl:

Check your email for our H5 questions. We are getting ready to build!

Do you know if the Honda-Challenge classes will be part of any VA enduros next year (already are?)?

Mansier,
From what I understand is the Honda Challenge Class are reconized by NASA-VA any of thier events, in fact in the Valintine Enduro 200 2 car ran Honda Challenge class's and that was before H-C even had its first offical race.

Geeezz... kinda made me blush and feel all warm inside!

Seriously, this weekend was a blast and the H5 battle was awesome, I'm just glad that I was able to worry Chris D into making a mistake on Sunday so I could take the win, that Accord was a monster on the banking with all that HP and torque, my little D16A1 had nothing for him. No matter how many times I passed him on the roadcourse I was a sitting duck by the time we got to Nascar 2 and the back straight.

On the H5 note for 2003, I really hope we see at least 5 or 6 cars on a regular basis. H5 is by far the most economical class to run as really well sorted and very quick cars can be had, ready to race, for just a couple grand. Look at the Rivergate Accord that's for sale. Geezz... $3200 for a fully sorted, race proven car. WOW. I've seen ready to race first-gen CRX Si's that are orphans from ITA, like my car, for sale for less than $4k with spares. Perfect for H5. There aren't many race prepped 1st-gen Integras like mine out there but hey, you could build my car from scratch for less than it would cost for a decent running donor H2 car, before all the go-fast goodies. And I'm here to tell ya, the differences in lap times just aren't too tremendous, especially considering the difference in the investments, and I dare anyone to tell me they had MORE FUN than I did at Lowes in my H5 car!

Ya know, Tom Fowler might even be convinced to sell that OPM Accord since SCCA screwed them with the whole classing thing, he might be convinced to sell it to some potential ECHC competitor. Someone would be getting one heck of a good race car, I've got the in-car video to prove it!

All you guys sitting on the sidelines, dreaming about "building a ECHC race car" with crazy H1 hybrid ideas, save yourself a whole lot of work, time, and money and buy an already-built H5 car and go ahead and actually go racing years earlier than you otherwise would be able to afford to. You'll be glad you did. Then when you're ready to move up, you're a veteran racer. And you give a lot of HP to a guy who can make a low HP car go fast and watch out! H5 gives joo sKillZ!

and remember, these cars are still for sale:

I'm gonna do some looking, I know that there are more out there on the web for sale.....

IMHO... low HP driving makes you a better driver once you get power.

A 1st-gen CRX for sale on the Atlanta Region SCCA page classifieds. I don't think there's much more that could be done to this car....

Can't agree more! I know some of you guys are just dying of getting into ECHC, or want to build their cars or whatever.. You know, don't do it, buy one of these CHEAP H5 cars, they are easy on tires, brakes, and handle the corners just as much as any of the faster cars... It doesn't matter what class you are in, as long as you have some competition, and that can easily be had in H5! Save the money and headaches, and buy one.

This sounds like the perfect way to break into ECHC. I want to get a couple of years or autox experience under my belt first then I can only hope I will still have an opportunity to pick up a H5 car at that time.

Thanks for stirring up my brain.......

I have a potential H5 car which I am currently racing in EMRA enduros. My EMRA license is recognized by NASA. I'm interested in trying some ECHC next year (although it's friggin far from Montreal). Technically, I don't think my roll cage is NASA legal, because the two bars that go from the main hoop from the back of the car are bent so that they could go over the folded up seats (long ago removed). This cage is chromoly and was FIA approved back in 88 when it was built. Will NASA accept this cage? It was very well built and one of dozens built by the same shop for the Canadian Honda Michelin Challenge series. If I found out my car were legal without any extra investment, it would motivate me to show up in 2003.
