Default Ring Gaps for 600 HP?

Hey guys, I'm running Wiseco pistons in a 87.5mm bore Neon motor, and since Wiseco's information for builds making this much horsepower sometimes seems a bit suspect, I thought I'd ask here and see what you all are having success with. This is a shorter stroke 2.0L motor, but I doubt that matters too much.

Thanks in advance!

I used 0.018 top ring and 0.023 2nd ring in mine with some success. Break-in must be done prior to running high boost, otherwise a little more gap should be added.

Thanks guys! It seems like you are pretty much falling into the range that Wiseco would suggest on this.

My notes show that the guy at Wiseco told me his thought would be to go .006xbore on the top ring for about .021, and .0063xbore on the second ring, for a total of about .022. You guys are using more variation between the top and second I guess though.

The Wiseco table looks like .0055 and .006 times bore would be recommended values, which would only give totals of .019 and .021.

I want to be able to break this sucker in hard and run it hard without having to worry about my ring ends butting under heavy load, so I think I'll probably go with the large end of the range and call it good.

Thanks again!

18 is tighter than what i would run for 600 + for sure.

Care to throw out some target numbers you think sound right (at least that sound in the ballpark of what you think would be right)?

On that bore size over 500hp i go .020 on the top ring and .023 on the second ring. In my experience as long as the tune is good after a couple heat cycles and a oil change, hard break ins has always gave me better leak down numbers.

thats a larger bore than what most hondas run,

example, stock s2000 (87mm bore) ring gaps are like .019 and 0.025 or so if i remember right.

id go 0.022 and 0.026, remember if the gaps are a little too big you loose nothing, if they are too small you have to build another motor

If you want it built correctly we can help

but i would recommend a .0022-top ring & .0024 second compression ring(depending on piston to wall clearance (.0045+)
