Icon6 temp guage?

i recently just bought another em1 (99 si) well everything on the car is great minus the fact that the temp guage doesnt move, or atleast 95% of the time and some times ill look down and its about a 1/4 of the way up doesnt even make it to the 1/2 way point were it should be.....im in the process of getting another guage cluster outta a buddies car to pop in and just see if its the cluster, but is there any thing else i should check or swap out that may fix my problem if the guage cluster isnt the issue? has anyone else ran into this problem and if soo what are some of yalls suggestions? all help is greatly appreciated, thanks

Could be the T-Stat stuck open never allowing the engine to get hot. After idling for 10 mins or so are the Radiator Hoses hot? Could also be the temp gauge connector getting a bad connection. Look under the Distributor and you will see a one wire connector going to a sensor in the Cylinder Head, make sure it is good and tight and getting a good connection.

If you have the money I would suggest purchasing an after market coolant temp sensor as it will give you quite a bit more information and will be much more accurate.

Sounds like a stuck T Stat. Good luck with the fix!

Pull the wire off the temp sensor and ground it then check where the needle is on the cluster if it goes to the top the cluster is ok.
Like was said before make sure the wire has a good connection on the sensor.Check t.stat and if that is good replace the sensor, its cheaper than a cluster.
