Default What tranmission to use

My brother-in-law has a 97 honda civic dx 5 speed manual tranny and the bearings are completely shot in his tranny. What are some trannys that I can use to swap in? I am looking for a cheap replacement. I have found 92-95 civic EX S20 tranny will this work?

i would use a ex tranny im 99% sure that tranny will bolt right it,

Any 92-00 D series tranny will work. If you can get a EX tranny though it would be better. They are better than DX trannies

Any '92 - '00 Civic or Del Sol manual transmission (except the '94 - '97 Del Sol VTEC, and '99 - '00 Civic Si) will bolt up and work fine. If you want to retain the same gearing get a DX/LX transmission. If you want a longer geared transmission get one from a VX/HX/92 - '95 CX. If you want a shorter geared transmission get one from an EX/'92 - '95 Si.
