WATER METHANOL INJECTION E85?
Was wondering if this has been or can be done with e85. I know it can be done with pump gas but wasnt sure bout e85. Also I know if used with pump gas its like using race gas with out the price so was wanting to know what increase would I be looking at by using a water/meth kit? Thanks
What the meth/water does it it decreases the Air/fuel ratio on pump gas to allow for more boost for a turbocharger to be higher in its pressure ratio. I'm sure it can be done with E85, I guess the question is why try to "double up".
I guess just wasnt sure if it would give me the same power increase that you gain by using it on pump gas or not. And I heard that it lowers your intake air temps so I figured that that would help aswell. I may be wrong tho thats why Im asking you guys first before I spend any unneeded money.
Its not needed, E85 will be all you need to keep detonation away... why add more stuff to complicate a setup when the exact same results can be had without Meth Inj.
Not to mention I highly doubt that one single nossle distributes the meth evenly across all the cylinders, its works for other non-honda's well because most of those motors are either factory boosted or iron blocks that can live with a knock count for a while, ours cant.

True, but I don't WANT to use E85 unless I want to be "green". Meth/water on pump gas is just fine. And water cost less than E85.. (For now anyway).

That's my particular opinion. E85 is not race gas based upon the BTUs of combustion and long term effects on the fuel lines and components if not given the right attention. In Michigan we can get 110 race fuels at pumps in many gas stations. Again, my opinion from my experience with the stuff.

What failures have you had with Ethanol TheShodan?

I agree with this I have had E85 in my car since this time last year not the same tank of fuel mindyou, but its still constantly in the entire fuel system with no negative afects as of yet

I still have yet to experience these long term affects, I have had a tank full of corn in my car since December 08 when I took it apart, I inspected the feed (which is capped with corn in it) and already had the pump cover off last month, guess what everything looks normal... it gets extremely annoying when people constantly recite what they heard from someone else who heard it from someone else on the internet who got his info from a decade old paper he read about Ethanol.

Guys over here have been running it for 3 year in the same car with STOCK lines, no issues... me thinks he has no personal experence, just what others have said,...
Just to clarify one point above, the water does its best work in the combustion chamber, with only a minor reduction in intake air temps. The methanol does a better job at reducing the intake air temps, but since it doesn't have the latent heat of evaporation (or whatever it is) that water does, it isn't as effective at preventing preignition/detonation in the combustion chamber. It is a high octane fuel though obviously.
Also, I've been getting my methanol for about $2.50/gallon at the sprint car shop.
I agree that if I was running e85, I doubt I'd feel the need to complicate the setup by using water injection. The only thing that gives me an adequate failsafe with my setup is that I run 70% methanol at a high volume, and use the lean-protection feature in MS3 to shut it all down if something happens.
TheShodan, did you say Michigan?

I as well have yet to see first hand experience with anything fuel related getting contaminated. Hell Shell Pump gas used to detoriate fuel lines/pumps with metal shavings/piece etc ppl still fill up at Shell.
I've have a 07 suburban running on ethanol for 3+ years no contaminating or deterioration then again it's not performance vehicle and more modern but it sure does go through a **** load of ethanol.

^^That's also a Flex-Fuel car built to handle E85. He was talking more about introducing E85 into a fuel system that isn't equipped for it per se. I have been on E85 for a year and haven't had any leaking/deterioration issues so far...all in all, i really like E85 because its $1.99/gal and gives me the ability to make a lot of power on the street (not that i'm making use of it yet). Also, on a cost vs mileage standpoint, i'm actually coming out slightly ahead when compared to premium gas...but i do have to fill more frequently
