Default Tightning up Suspension

Ok guys just recently bought a 92 Civic LX 4 door 5 speed with a JDM SOHC D15B swap. Needed a 4 door as i recently just had a baby. The body has 225,000 miles on it and it def needs some suspension stuff done to tighten it up..feels loose at highway speeds. What type of parts would you recommend? OEM or something aftermarket like poly bushings and stuff. No real goals maybe turbo in the future for fun but my other car is a camaro so I use that right now for fun. First Honda but not new to tinkering with hondas as my brother has a b18 turbo swapped civic. Let me know what you guys recommend and from where.

On a side note its all stock but does have a CAI and soon to have a short shifter.

Thanks!

just regular OEM parts will do just fine... upper and lower ball joints, tie rod ends, rear trailing arm bushings

either look at energy suspension poly bushings and mugen or pic rta bushing, or look at full pic bushings or hardrace.
fresh shocks will make a world of a difference, maybe lower a bit.
dont wanna go too stiff tho, dont think the baby would like that at all.

I have looked at the suspension on a million 92-95 civics. Sadly they all have torn rubber bushings, especially at this mileage. To make it truly right the trailing arm bushings, all of the control arms and the camber arms need to be replaced. As mentioned checking the balljoints is key also. Once u figure out how far u wanna go with this picking out a shock spring combo u can afford will make the car feel real nice.

I think EG civics are great quality vehicles but being close to 20 yrs old, major renewals like these are necessary. BTW I personally don't agree with poly bushings.

OE bushings would be worlds better and ride better than the poly bushings. You need to keep it tolerable for your child first and foremost. New shocks, ball joints, tie rods...

Do you mean replace the control arms and camber arms with new ones? If i am going to start replacing arms mine as well replace them with some good aftermarket ones for possible projects in the future. What brands do you recommend? Also does anyone recommend poly bushings for any parts of the suspension? I figure if im going through replacing some stuff mine as well replace it with better stuff and make it handle better than factory.

i do reccomend poly. they last longer then rubber and they will give you a tight suspension, rubber wont.

I was looking at the energy suspension poly kits that include a lot of the bushings minus some i will pick up individually. Are these good kits? Also what RTA bushings do you recommend and what control arms as well? Also what brand and size swaybars do you recommend to be streetable and not overkill

yea as long as you take care of them, if not they will squeak and drive you nuts. for rta bushing keep it rubber, so either oem, mugen, pic, hardrace and a few others, lcas just not blox there bushings blow and will be garbage in no time.
as for sway bars id keep it oem-

I laugh when people talk about how poly will last longer than OEM rubber. That may be, but these rubber bushings have lasted what, 10-20 years on some of these cars. Do you really think you will be driving your Civic that far into the future, or more? Does it really matter on a dd?

the biggest difference between poly and rubber is that compared to rubber, poly tightens things up.........it doesnt have as much give in it which gives you a tighter ride. it can make the ride a tiny bit harsher.......but nowhere near what stiffer springs would do.

i would recommend all new tie-rod ends, ball joints, bushings(oem or poly is completely u to you), the control arms that have permanent bushings(again oem or aftermarket is ur choice), new shocks(there is alot of room for research in this area, a shock is not a shock so you might want to spend some time reading about them and see what suits you best). the only other advice i can offer is that koni and bilstein are very good quality and reasonably priced. this isnt a pitch for or against any company.......i just know about those 2 in particular.

also with the shocks remember..........everyones opinion of what a comfortable ride is.....is a bit different, so its a bit of a guessing game.......when looking at reviews you have to pay attention to what kinda car they are driving, other mods they have done(if it lists them), try and get a feel for what kinda driver they are(care more about comfort or performance or combination), and you have to throw out the wlid cards......if 50 ppl write a review, 5 say they give a harsh ride, 5 say its the smoothest ride ever and the other 40 says its a nice middle ground........then its a good bet that the shocks give a good middle ground. and possibly if you have a friend that has some ur interested in you could ride with them

good luck
