Default ***Built D16z6 Turbo question***

Ok just got my car runnin here a few days ago, only mods to the engine that arent factory replacement are Eagle H beam rods, vitara pistons std bore, Golden Eagle block guard and Arp Head studs.

The Question
I just hooked up a mechanical oil pressure gauge yesterday, and at a 850rpm idle, the gauge reads between 5psi and 10psi. Is that correct?

Really apreciate any help that I can get. Thanks again fellas.

Seems a hair low for a warm idle. What are your oil clearances, and what oil are you using?

That sounds dangerously low. What does the oil pressure look like at a 3,000rpm rev?

you should have at the least shimmed your oil pump...better yet...open up those ports on the pump

You may want to step up to a 40 weight oil if you don't have sufficient pressure at higher RPMs.

^^ Thats not fixing anything, thats just attempting to cover up the problem.

40psi is not very good under throttle. I had a motor with pretty much the same pressure and it didnt last 5,000 miles. Did you replace the bearings? If you did, then did you check the clearances?

If i were you, id take it back apart.

I know that before I did any work to the oil pump(which happened to be in between builds), on a hot *** day running 10w30 @ idle it would be around 11-15 psi, now i get around 20-25'ish. 60 psi @3k

Look in your Honda manual.

10psi at idle
50psi at 3,000rpms

These are at operating temp.

And regards to who ever said dont run 40weight oil... If you have loose bearing clearances (like me) you may need to run a little thicker oil...

Also, 10psi per 1,000rpm and you'll be fine. Flow > Pressure.

Man, I would probably just run the 10w-40 Matt. You need to shorten up your oil feed line too. I can't wait for that thing to be the way you want it so you can quit worrying soooo much on it. .. Going to have mine done soon to roll out with you all for Varsity or wtf ever lol..

Run the 10W40. 20W50 is like molasses on start up... I see NO benefits from running that thick of an oil in our motors.

Hell, if you can get it, run 5W40. It's all about experimentation. 40 might be too thick for you. You may need to run 5W30 or something... 10psi per 1,000rpms.
