Default Engine light came on... when it wasn't supposed to.

hey guys, im new to the whole tuning era, got myself a 2000 Prelude and i bought this fuel enhancer thing. it says to unplug the IAT sensor (intake air temperature sensor) and to tap into the wires with the supplied tool with the module.

I did this, and the engine light came on. Freaking out, i took off the module and plugged the IAT sensor back in.
The light is still on. How do i get it to turn off?

Many thanks,

Reset the ECM by pulling the fuse under the hood, or disconnecting the Battery negative for 30 seconds - not sure if your stereo has security code or not, but it would be wise to know the code before you disconnect the battery

Do that (you'll need the code for your radio), and then throw that thing you bought in the trash.

Even if i had the code for the radio, wouldn't i still need to take it to a shop to use a reader and enter the code? might as well just take it there to get the engine light removed. I talked to my local garage, they said it would cost just $47-- to scan and remove the error codes.

$47?!?! Go to Autozone or something. They'll read the code free of charge. But before you even do that, reset the ECM as was suggested.

Yes i did. And the negative wire is off the battery as we speak. i took it off the hook before i read your post. But now, i have to go find the stupid radio code.... would anyone know where i would find it? i've tried the manual, there is a sticker on the inside of the glove compartment but there is a number 9 and a letter B in it. not sure how i would enter that in the radio. but oh well.

From what I can tell about the factory stereo's its a 4 digit pin number that is entered by the 6 memory location buttons on the stereo itself.

I'd personally read the ECM code myself using the link Kronn stated
https://honda-tech.com/forums/showthread.php?p=38252637

Then Reset the ECM

**edit.... damn It's hard to type and take orders whilst at work....

Where would one find this 4-digit code...

i did that jump thing with a paper clip. and checked the chart to be my IAT Sensor, to which i knew that that was the problem before hand.

Let me see if I can explain it in a way that you will finally understand.

You can pull any code yourself for free, simply use my thread.

For the exact OBDII codes, you can go to ANY AutoZone and have the codes pulled for free.

Send me your $50, since you like wasting money.

ok, kronn... like i have said it earlier. the guy that was on the phone didnt know jack. he said they only had the reader for sale for $144....

I already had the code pulled from the jumper trick, but i still had to clear the light.

so i used my friend's reader, and cleared it. No more problem, so you should stop trolling and leave this thread to die.

im suprised this wasnt said yet. if you unplug the iat sensor yes the check engine light will come on, but if you plug it back in all you have to do is cycle the ignition and the check engine light will go off. this is not a code that has to be cleared. so if your cel is still on that means there is still a issue with the iat.
