Default ??SUB TURNS OFF AT HIGHER VOLUME??WHY??

I just got a Memphis Audio PR 10v2 and an Alpine 500w mono. everything was working fine for a few days. i was on my way home the other day and my sub just stopped. So i turned the car off and then back on and it worked fine....when i turned the volume up past 37(mid/high volume) it turns the sub off and it wont come back on until i turn the car off and back on. The amp stays on the entire time. im running 8g power/ground and regular ol' speaker wire for inside the box...

Check your ground; it is going into safe mode for some reason. You state you have a mono block so I’m guessing you had to bridge your speakers? If so check that also. I have the same amp, they are like women when it comes to being properly grounded. On the plus side it keeps you from frying your equipment. What do you have it currently grounded to?

1. A few things can shut an amplifier off. The impedence of the speakers, if its to low the power supply recognizes your pulling to much current and trips the protection circuit. How is you subwoofer wired? I don't know that particular model.

2. heat, how hot is your amplifier getting? If its boil an egg hot then that protection circuit may be tripping.

3. clipping the output, some amplifiers may shut down if the output has been clipped. This can happen if you haven't set the gain properly or you just turned the volume up to high.

4. bad powercable connection. If the amp isn't getting enough current that can also trip a protection circuit. You should double check your connections. Including where you have the wire connected to the chassis.

as far as where i have it grounded...i have it grounded to the bolts near the tail lights on the trunk floor where i have my lower trunk brace bar....as far as the amp being super "boil an egg hot" no.....the amp is cool to the touch.... as far as clipping im not sure but i dont think so, the sub is barely hitting at all, not hard enough to make the coil separate....ill check the connections again tomorrow very well...im going to make sure that ground is bare-clean metal against bare-clean metal so it has the best connection possible....off to the bed for tonight thought...thanks

Possiblity ground problem. See if you can change ground posiition, and see what happens..

still didnt work...im going to wire the sub up to 4 ohms and see if it will run like that...it may be getting too much power from the amp...500w amp and the sub is 500w peak at 2 ohms....

wired up to 4 ohms...doesnt hit as hard but i can turn it up now without the sub shutting off...must be the amp was putting too much power to the sub and it couldnt handle it...

Is that a dual 2 ohm voice coil? I dont have the time to look up your equipment.

If it is then if you wire it in parrallel it becomes a 1 ohm load. You need to check and see if that amp is capable of driving a 1 ohm load. If not see my reason #1 above. Most mono blocks are only capable of driving 2 ohm loads.

Most all amps are capable of driving a 4 ohm load.

That amp isn't stable at one ohm, and that is/was your problem. Be glad you have a good amp and that it didn't get messed up

i had a similar problem but it was with my speakers the sound would just cut of after like 38 level, and i tuned it down on the amp and it works fine at full 50, try wiring it back to 2 ohm and tuning it down on the amp?
