looking for a budget build that will pass CA smog
OK so I am at a point where I have done everything I could think of to fix a problem of my B18C1 burning oil. I put new valve stem seals, new PCV, did a compression test and results were 190/191/189/190, did a leakdown test, running a chipped P28 ECU. I do not have any coolant in my oil, plugs are dry and its running a little rich. From 3500 RPM and up I get a noticable bluish smoke form the exhaust. So...I guess its time for new pistons/rings. The question is which ones to go with. I live in Cali and we have crappy 91 oct gas, My hatch is Bar'd and I this is my daily driven car. With that being said I want to keep it able to pass smog and reliable. I plan at some point when it stops burning oil to do Skunk2 springs/retainers w/ Pro 1 cams. I already have Skunk Pro IM. Do I stick with GSR pistons, or can I get away with running ITR pistons/rings and still pass smog??? I just would hate to put stock pistons and then to find out that if I only spent another $100 I could have made more power. Any advice is greatly appreciated
I passed smog with flying colors on my build. its a b18c1 w/.25 os usdm itr pistons, endyn ported head, skunk2 im, itr cams w/ supertech valvetrain. It was enough to put down 177whp on blacktrax's dynapack dyno
you getting jdm or usdm style? cause the jdms will have more compression....also when i smogged my car it was with a brand new OEM cat(I had a random tech one but that went south very quick, total waste of money).
