Anyone know how much it cost for a shop to install a new oil pump on an integra, I know you gotta take off the timing belt and drop the oil pan. I am not attempting this heart surgery. Please i would love to hear a few estimates of how much im looking to fork out. I already ordered the new Type R oil pump. I just want to know how much a garage is gonna charge me for the install?????

 

Whats wrong with your oil pump? Not sure on the price but it wont be cheap.

So im assuming you switched out the sensor before buying a new oil pump correct? Is this a bone stock ls? I dont think the ITR oil pump will work with the stock ls. Someone correct me if im wrong. If I remember right only the waterpump was interchangeable.

 

Yes i replaced the oil pressure switch and Yes you can bolt a type r oil pump right up the a B18A, It is needed when you do LS-Vtec, It is bone stock block & Head, Ill already be a step ahead if i decide to go LS-Vtec. It will flow a lot better that the stock oil pump. More oil pressure is better than none. haha

 

 

The ITR oil pump bolts right up to a 96-01 b18, anything before 96 requires you to buy a 96+ lower timing belt cover.

 

I know a shop charges about 3 hours just to do the timing belt. Since you're going to have to take off the oil pan as well as the timing belt I bet you're looking at 4 hour min. Given shops at least in my area charge in between $85-120 an hour you going to shove out 4 bills or more.

 

I would say $500-$600 and that's probably a deal. But really, it's NOT that hard to do yourself, although you really should spend about $100 on a GOOD torque wrench to avoid warping your oil pan.

Also, everyone pay attention to this: THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A "TYPE R OIL PUMP" The OBD-II 96-01 Integra oil pumps were identical ACROSS the board for all VTEC and non-VTEC models, including the RS, LS, GS-R and Type R.

 

X2. If I was doing this to a b18a, I would use a 94-95 GSR oil pump, water pump, and timing belt. All these would be perfect for future LS/VTEC as well.

There is such thing as a type R oil pump. I worked at acura.

 

We are just saying they're interchangeable.

 

I just searched oemacuraparts.com for Type R, GSR, and LS. I used 1998 as an example.

All 3 list the oil pump as the exact same part number: 15100-P72-A01

 

Hey guys, I appreciate all the feedback, Not tryin to start an argument over oil pumps. lol, but i got some feedback from my local honda performance shop and the owner told me to drop my oil pan and check for sludge since i let me car sit for a couple months with the VC off the head, Then replace the oil filter again and put fresh oil in. see how she runs and if its still getting clogged then im gonna replace the pump. Hopefully theres a lot of gunk in the pan and it just needs a good cleanse. too bad you can't just do an oil flush, just like a coolent flush. would prolly fix my entire problem... haha

lol nope. There is an OBD-II Integra oil pump, and an OBD-I oil pump for older Integras. That is all.

 

I can't argue the part numbers being the same but I was told that the type r/GSR had a higher volume than the LS. I did read the article on team integra about them being the same and shimming the spring for more pressure but I thought the type r had higher volume.

 

how could they be different if they all have the same part number? There's nothing else that distinguishes parts other than part number, that I know of.

To the op, just get the 94-95 gsr stuff (obd1 pump is the same but you want the vtec t-belt/water pump), save money on a lower timing cover, and be done with it. Use the money you'd spend on labor for a helms manual and some quality tools.
