Welding Transmission??
I see that for us poor-boys who cant afford a liberty/miller case that some people were welding to strengthen the case.
I finally got my liberty faceplated gears back, and just getting ready to re-assemble. Can someone post pics of what they are doing to the case to help re-enforce it? I am not to familiar with this and could use some schooling!
Thanks

Like i said.. this is new to me.. I am just wondering if it is something that will be worthwhile doing..
There is no one here that I can pay to do it for me. I have no isssue doing it myself i just want to know what the issues are with them and what guys have done to remedy the problem.

So its an issue of the shafts wanting to separate at the lower end to? I already have the 5th handcuff..
I think with some time on the mill, and the welder i should be able to fab something up on the bottom end...
More pics would be great though!!!

you just face plated stock gears? If so, YOU DO NOT NEED TO WELD THE CASE.
Thats what you make it sound like. Its the strait cut gears that load the bell housing.
Thats some THICK metal on the case lol we used 3/16 plating and did more plates than that.

I havnt seen anyone mod that. There is a constant load on the bell housing because of the Final drive, the load progressively works outwork on the top case with the gear changes so you only really put a good load on the top case in 4th gear, which is where you should have the 5th gear brace which helps alot.
So my understanding is that it is only the strait cut gears that put the extra load on the case and cause it to crack? I just really want to make sure that if i need to do something that it gets done now while i have it all apart rather than having to mess with it down the road..
