You're supposed to put oil in it with the lines off of it and you just have to put a very small amount in. If it came off of a running car, chances are it's got oil in it. For freon, you have to put a gauge on it to see the correct amount of cans to use.

How much oil did you drain from your old compressor?

If you've had your new compressor off for a while, then you need to empty out the refrigerant oil completely out of your new one and refill. Bench it and tip it over until it all drains out. Like, leave it for a day. The reason is that the oil will absorb moisture from the air (it's hygroscopic) and you do NOT want moisture in your lines. It will kill your compressor.

From what I read, if you have a Sanden compressor, and you are replacing it and don't have any other refrigerant oil in the lines, then you add 120ml of PAG46 oil. Oh, that applies to a 94-95 Civic -- yours might be different for a 6th Gen. If you do have other old refrigerant oil in your lines (like, it's old, or the lines have been open for a while), then you should flush it out with A/C flush. If you've just replaced a compressor, then you should be fine just adding what you drained from the old one.

Sorry answer is not easy, but if it was then everyone would be their own A/C tech, wouldn't they. Some more reading is probably in order... for both of us.

Coles notes:

If you've had your lines open long enough to accumulate moisture:
Drain your new compressor, evap, condensor of oil;
Flush your A/C lines;
Reinstall everything;
Fill new compressor with 120ml(?) of PAG46.

If you've just quickly replaced your compressor (ie., not had system apart long enough to collect moisture):
Drain your old compressor
Drain your new compressor
Calculate how much oil you drained from your old compressor
Add this amount in NEW refrigerant oil to your new compressor

I THINK! Someone else should pipe in to be sure. I am no A/C expert by any means, and you should definitely get more input.
