Turbo poorman type r help!
Hello im kind of new to the site but not to the honda community anyway. Let me tell you my story. My turbo b16 in my del sol recently decided to let go so i was in need of a new motor so i thought i would just buy a new jdm one right no problem. Well i got ahold of Osaka jdm motors out of canada. I orderd a 2nd gen manual b16 longblock for a total of 1150$ shipped. Two weeks later it show up and and to my suprise i end up with a blcok that has no engine code on the front. It looks like they hit it with a grinder. Any way i call them up and let them know whats going on and they say that they never had this happen and wanted pictures of it so i send them and was told to call back. So i sent the pics and call back the guy i was talking tells me that it is to close to closing to talk to me and to call back tomorow.Im starting go get upset at this point so i do what he says. Next day i call and axk what up and all i get is they dont check them out they just pop the hoods pull them out and ship thats it. So i say fine what ever and pull the motor apart so i can put a new head gasket, studs and water pump and timing belt on and see p72 on the block odd..
It has a pr-3 on the head and as i dig deeper i see the pistons are p73 pistons and the crank is not stamped with the r on it for type r. The headgasket is a 2 layer so someone was having fun with this motor and made a true poorman type r. Not what i wanted in any way. So any way i call them back and get the runaround again and they refust to belive any of it and say basically im stuck with it. Any way my question is since im stuck with this pos is it going to be safe after i put a oem headgasket back in to have a small greddy turbo kit on. I know the compression is crazy high 11.1 but i dont have much of a choice at this point or do i put like a thicker headgasket in to be safer. Thanks for the help and sorry for the really long post... Dont Buy From Osaka Motors!!!!!

Sounds like you kinda Won out on this. Better displacement, better torque. Tear it down and make sure everything is solid. Go with an OEM headgasket, some new ARP studs and keep rockin'. you weren't in any less of a position had you received the used b16 engine anyway. As long as the other parts make the engine whole, and it is able to start up, get something other than a Greddy turbo kit, and have some fun.
Wow good to hear. I kind of thought i came out ahead on this one but was afraid that with such high compression i would have problems. Thanks for all the help and i will post numbers after all is done Thanks
