Default Installing Cam & Crank Seals, Hard?

i did my timing belt job for my 96 lx (non-vtec) this winter break and now my car is leaking oil.

my plan for this spring break is to replace one of the two seals i replaced during the timing belt job to fix this leak. i do not know where the oil is leaking as of yet but they're the only 2 seals i replaced during the tb job.

anyways, i dont have the expensive honda tool nor a deep socket that is big enough nor long enough to get the seal in all the way through, for cam & crank.

what are your suggestions for seating in the seals AND what kinda sealant do you suggest applying to the seals before seating them in their spots.

thanks

PVC pipe and fittings work well as seal installers.

i've never used any sealant on seals of this type, though i know some guys do. i don't feel it needs it. a little grease on the inner seal groove is important though.

Also, the 36MM Nut that you used to remove the axle nut works well.

never thought of PVC pipe and fittings... would be a cheap alternative if you dont have large deep sockets.

the 36mm socket i have is a craftsman from sears, and they never carried the deep sockets in store, so i got the short one, which is not long enough.

Autozone has the 36MM deep socket one.

i always use wheel hub and bearing grease. i keep a big tub of it handy on the work bench. some seals (maybe V6 cam seals... axle seals in the trans case..) come pre-greased with a heavier white grease. the factory service manual just says "grease" though. it doesn't specify what type in most cases.

i think you're right, if they come from the dealership. i use seals of equal quality but through a shop supplier mostly, not from the dealership.

if its pregreased from the dealer, that'll be awesome. the aftermarket ones dont have grease on them.
