three broken breaker bars later....
I have one axle nut out of two off. I broke first a generic brand breaker bar. Oh well no big deal right? So I go get a stanley, which is a little better, and proceed to break that in all of literally 10 seconds. Off to sears for a craftsman unit. This one did better, lasting about 30 seconds before snaping.
Bent the first 5' steel plumbing pipe that I was using as an extender beyond use. The second one is only 4' and its holding up a little better.
Tomorrow I go back to sears. Tomorrow I buy a beast craftsman impact wrench. I'll drop a couple of hundred bucks, but oh well I guess I'll get some use out of it.

I bent my Craftsman on the fist one. Thats when I called my Snap-On dealer to get a 25 in. the snap-on took it like a champ
Good luck

Good luck

Mine were also a pita to get off. Make sure they are unstaked, and I soaked mine in wd-40 over night. Just don't get any on the rotors or pads.
I have the Ingersoll Rand 2131 1/2inch impact gun...it can go up to 600ft pounds in reverse...took mine off in a few seconds
....you can find the IR 2131 for around $180+ at Sears, Harbor Freight, and online...good luck!!

It takes the crank pullies off no problem also
....by the way the IR 2131 is the most powerful 1/2 inch impact in the world and it likes around 90psi for max power...its badass...I havent found something it would not take off....oh and I am running a Sears 150psi 30 gallon compressor (Sears Item #00916551000)...I am not sure of the CFM of the compressor...its listed on the side of the compressor...I can check tomorrow...I know its on the higher end for a sears compressor...I got the compressor for $269
FYI...the toolwarehouse.net hasthe IR 2131 for $159....I have ordered from them before and they have great service...and if you buy over $100 you get free shipping

The Craftsman model 19905 is the exact same because Ingersol Rand make the Craftsman impacts. The specs on it are ..........600 ft/lbs at 90 in reverse and 450 ft/lbs in forward.....................4.8 scfm at 90psi. I have both the 1/2 and the 3/8's and I love them both. They work great.
Extreme_Hybrid_Hatch...I saw that before...funny thing is my Sears near me sells both the IR and the Craftsman one right next to each other...the IR one costing a few bucks more...go figure??....the only thing is you can find the IR one online cheaper than the craftsman one at sears...like I said thetoolwarehouse.net has it for $159 with free shipping
i ran into the same problem this weekend taking off one of my axel nuts. except the sockets kept splitting on me, the breaker bar held up fine! i ended up buying a 3/4 inch craftsman breaker bar w/ a 1 1/4 inch socket, and with the aid of a 4 ft piece of pipe, and a good swift tug, TINK, and it spun free. my ingersall rand 2131 didn't even budge it, nor did pb blaster, i must have gone at it for ~1 hr between pb blaster and hitting it with the impact wrench.
good luck!
good luck!
lagger...what kind of compressor are you using..PSI...etc??...make sure you are using the shortest hose possible and that its good quality...along with the fittings...most times the compressor, lines or fittings are not up to par...so then your gun will not develop the full torque numbers that its rated for...you should have no problem getting those axle bolts off with the IR 2131
it's the craftsman 25th anniversary edition compressor. 5hp or 6hp, 30gal, 150psi w/ a 25ft hose. i've taken axel nuts off with it before, and it took them off like it was no ones business, but it just wasn't up to the challenge this time around. at one point i had my breaker bar on the nut using my jack to push up on the handle, and that didn't do anthing but lift the passenger side of the car
