ok so I dont have much experience with swaps but i just got a 94 eg hatch and was wondering what you guys think would be better to drop in to be a good reliable dd and could keep up with srt-4's and such. any and all input is welcome so please go nuts! (im between a b16 or b18)

Well it all reallly depends on your price range, and power goals. They are both similiar difficulty wise. To me it never really ment much sense to fully build a b16, so that it was basically a stock GSR or what not. If I were you, I do a GSR or LS vtec.

hmmm good thoughts. makes alot of sense, but if i wanted to go turbo later would the b16 be better for running turbo? or would it really make a difference?

Not many stock swaps are going to keep up with srt-4's especially since not very many of them are running around without mods.

To be honest the forced induction world I know nothing about. I keep it all motor cause my eg is a DD, I would just cruise the forced induction thread and chieck it out. Sorry i have no advice there.

no problem thanks for the point in the right direction tho.

@punk0333: yea i know stock that no swap could amount to that but i do plan on putting together a nice motor to start building towards forced induction whether it be a turbo or supercharger.. still haven't decided that either. thank you tho for the input.

take an auto tec class, during mine, ive pulled the intake manifold from an infiniti v-6 (on V's their a bitch), pulled the engine from a ford escort inline 4, and pulled the pistons and crank and checked the clearances on a chevy 350 short block

its a good class to get some good insight on engine building and swaps

i would go with a reliable ls/vtec. Especially since your wanting to go turbo later. I have a 92 cx hatch that has a b16a in it with skunk2 stage 2 cams and skunk2 valvetrain. I drive it dainly and race it hard on the weekends. I have beaten b20 vtecs and Ihave beaten an older gti with it, but still desire turbo setup. Thats y im in the process of puting my ls/vtec together now. You kinda get the best of both worlds. B18 has your low compresssion and with a gsr or b16 head you get vtec. even with this setup you can still have a decent dd. But everything comes down to money and just wat you want out of your car. Hope this helps out.

definetly good info thanks crx. im definetly goin LS vtec because its reliable, fast, and doesn't need much modding to slap a turbo on it later. thanks all for your great info!

my vote is for a b16a or a gsr swap. if you dont have much experience with swaps and it'll be your daily driver, those would be your fastest, most reliable options.
