Default suggestions for brakes, 00 EJ8

2000 Civic Ex Coupe non/ABS

I need brakes and I've done some research and I've come up with this rotor/pad combo

Pads: EBC Red Stuff (P/N: E35DP3812/2C)
Rotors: EBC Ultimax OE Blanks (P/N: E35UPR850)

my biggest problem with just pulling the trigger on that setup is I haven't read anywhere that confirms the EBC rotors are Zinc coated. i'd really like a good rust resistant rotor, anyone have any suggestions?

i'm also looking at just OE blanks, no slotted/drilled/dimpled rotors. pads i'm completely open to suggestion.

[edit] i'm looking for suggestions for aftermarket brake hardware, i'm well aware that OEM is the 'way to go' so if all you have to offer is "just go with OEM", don't bother. [/edit]

red pads are just ceramic, green are kevlar based organic and for larger luxury sedans, yellow are for SUVs. they make a metallic pad, but if i wanted to go metallic i would just buy OEMs. i've heard good things about HPS pads, but i've heard better things about the EBC pads, especially when mated to their rotors.

If I were upgrading my brakes I'd get the Hawk HPS pads and Brembo blank rotors. Probably throw some SS braided brake lines on there while I was down there as well.

Selecting brake pads is all about which compromises you're willing to live with. Noise, dust, efficacy, cold performance, component life...all come in to play. OE are representative of the kind of compromise most people are willing to live with. If you don't mind noise or dust, I'd recommend Hawk HP+ pads. They are a bit tough on rotors and dusty but provide excellent braking. Those are compromises I can accept.

Other than rotors with aluminum hats, I'm not sure there's any real way to avoid rust on a daily'd car.

yea I've been taking all that into consideration. i don't mind some dust, i own a detailing business and i keep my car super clean anyway. I'd like to keep the noise down and performance up. hence the EBC Red Stuff pads. @jdm_ i was originally gonna go with brembo blanks, but they're not zinc coated. that's not a deal breaker at all, but the fact that the EBC blanks are(i think), and are only $33 a rotor, changed my mind. the picture on discountbrakes.com makes them appear zinc coated, but nothing in the description says they are. at this point it's a toss up between the brembo and ebc blanks. my friend was trying to tell me to just go to autozone and get some duralast pads and rotors, but you know what there are 2 things on a car (maintenance wise) i would never cheap out on.. brakes and tires.

Good point. Both are well known brands so it's unlikely you could do wrong choosing either.
